The danger of nuclear war is ever present and growing daily, and without a powerful grassroots movement dedicated to abolition of nuclear weapons, the unthinkable – another Hiroshima or Nagasaki – is possible.
The new START treaty expired in February. The Senate NDAA would authorize the development of tactical nuclear weapons. Escalation in Iran seems to have no off-ramp, and Trump threatened to end Iran’s civilization. Trump’s nuclear deal with Saudi also threatens to add more proliferation in the Middle East.
On the positive side, the Massachusetts State Senate last week passed S. 1649, the Back from the Brink resolution, taking a stand to curb the nuclear arms race and then reverse it.
We gather across Massachusetts to remember the more than 210,000 killed, and the many more injured, by the U.S. nuclear attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6 and 9 in 1945.
We gather to say:
NEVER AGAIN – NO MORE HIROSHIMAS and NAGASAKIS!
NO MORE VICTIMS – ABOLISH NUCLEAR WEAPONS!
