Elect Lorena Betts State Representative!

Massachusetts Peace Action endorses Lorena Betts for State Representative in the 16th Middlesex District (Pawtucketville and Centralville in Lowell, plus Chelmsford Center and North Chelmsford). Lorena is an indefatigable community leader who will speak truth to power at the State House. MAPA joins progressives like State Senator Jamie Eldridge and Governor’s Councilor Mara Dolan in supporting Lorena’s candidacy.

Lorena has served the community as an organizer, former legislative aide, interpreter, and co-founder of The Peacemakers Network. A naturalized U.S. citizen, she came to the United States from Brazil with her parents.

Lorena’s work fits with MAPA’s efforts to redirect state policies away from war and toward human needs. Electing her would help build a stronger voice at the State House against ICE collaboration, war spending, and unethical influence.

Working alongside MAPA and other allies, she has organized email and call campaigns, as well as, rallies in support of the PROTECT Act. And, she has organized demonstrations and lobbying visits to support MAPA’s 2025–2026 Commonwealth Peace and Justice Agenda.

This race could be decided by a relatively small number of voters. In an expected low-turnout primary on September 1, a few volunteers, a few donations, and a few dozen additional votes can make a difference. We can make a difference.

If you can help, even in a small way, please consider how you might support Lorena Betts: donating, volunteering, hosting a house party, attending a house party, or learning more about her campaign.
