Tia M. Pocknett grew up in the Mashpee Wampanoag Community and works at the Weetumuw School. Tia teaches students Wôpanâôt8âôk (Wampanoag Language) and cultural practices.  Tia focuses on both culture-based education and Montessori pedagogy. Tia has been one of the founding teachers of Weetumuw School since its opening in 2016. She will discuss the importance of using language, teaching cultural practices, and why being on the land is an integral part of learning at Weetumuw School. Learning about cultural practices and having students learn about the land ensures that the next generation will understand the importance of land, language, and culture.
