Peace Advocates Slam Gov. Healey’s Waste of $47 million Taxpayer Funds

Massachusetts Peace Action today blasted Gov. Healey’s decision to spend $47 million of Massachusetts taxpayer funds to support companies building weapons for the U.S. military.

“When Massachusetts is seeking private donations to pay for food aid for its citizens due to the federal government shutdown, it should not be wasting taxpayer money on funding for building new weapons,” said Brian Garvey, executive director of Massachusetts Peace Action.

“The U.S. military is illegally sinking civilian ships in the Caribbean in a flagrant violation of international law.  President Trump is lawlessly deploying U.S. troops in cities such as Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington, DC, Memphis, and Portland, Oregon, and he has increased the U.S. Pentagon budget to over $1 trillion, even while Medicaid recipients face steep health care premium increases..  The Federal Government is breaking new laws every day, yet Gov. Maura Healey wants to spend Massachusetts taxpayer dollars to  further enrich military companies, and increase the military’s ability to break the law and oppress the American people, by building them a new microelectronics center and other giveaways. The Legislature and State Auditor should hold the Governor accountable for these serious mistakes,” Garvey continued.
