Safe Communities Act Hearing

ICE is creating an environment of fear in our neighborhoods. Our neighbors are afraid to go to work, to the hospital, to send their children to school, to worship in peace, or contact their government.
It’s time for all of us to speak up. We can change Massachusetts law to protect our neighbors and end collaboration with ICE.
The public has the right to testify (in person, virtually, or in writing) on Tuesday Nov. 25th at 11am. But you have to sign up by 5pm today (Thursday Nov. 20th).
3 Minutes to tell the Public Safety Committee why we shouldn’t be collaborating with ICE. Here’s a fact sheet to help you!
When we win the Safe Communities Act will:
- Prevent state and local law enforcement from doing the work of ICE agents
- Extend legal protections like Miranda rights to all our neighbors
- Let immigrants interact with police and government officals without fear of being turned in to ICE
- Ensure your State and Local taxes aren’t also fueling ICE
- We need you to voice your opposition to ICE’s dangerous and illegal actions.

If you can’t join us in person or virtually, send a message to your State Reps and Governor Healey.

The Safe Communities Act already has over 70 cosponsors. That’s over 1/3 of the legislature!
Connecticut, California, Illinois, Washington, and other states already have this law on the books! There’s no good reason for Massachusetts to lag behind.
We all have a responsibility to stick up for our neighbors. Time to draw the line.
