Suggested donation at the door of $20 for Youth Against Settlements in Hebron
Issa Amro is a human rights defender based in Hebron city, West Bank. The co-founder of the direct action group Youth Against Settlements and the executive director of Working for Peace and Justice: Friends of Hebron, Amro is popularly referred to as the ‘Palestinian Gandhi. He has been widely recognized for his work encouraging peaceful resistance against the Israeli occupation for which he has been imprisoned scores of times. From 2016-2021 he was on trial in Israeli military court on 18 charges deemed ‘baseless’ by Amnesty International. In 2024 Amro and Youth Against Settlements received the Right Livelihood Award, known as the ‘alternative Nobel Prize.’ He has been nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize.
Peter Beinart is professor of journalism and political science at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism in the City University of New York, editor-at-large of Jewish Currents and a contributing opinion writer at The New York Times. He is also a nonresident fellow at the Foundation for Middle East Peace. His books include The Crisis of Zionism and Being Jewish After the Destruction of Gaza – a Reckoning.
