The 2:30 program will be held after the 1:00-2:15 StandOut at the intersection of Beacon and Harvard in the nearby Coolidge Corner Library Community Room at 31 Pleasant St. It will begin with a welcome from Brookline PAX and brief overview of the key activities that Brookline has undertaken in US-Cuba normalization efforts locally, regionally and nationally, many of which can be found by putting “Brookline” in the “Search July26.org” box on any July26.org page.
The program will be introduced and moderated by Nalda Vigezzi, former cochair of the National Network on Cuba/NNOC.
Cole Harrison, Executive Director of Massachusetts Peace Action, will talk about the pivotal role that U.S.-Cuba relations play in the overall mission of MAPA and the Peace Movement and the upcoming MAPA trip to Cuba at the beginning of the new year, touching on next month’s NNOC meeting at UMass/Boston.
Alejandro García del Toro, Deputy Chief of the Cuban Embassy in Washington DC, will offer video remarks designed especially for this program.
Just as this day’s combination StandOut/Library program represents a unique form of political action, so does the whole arena of US-Cuba solidarity activity reflect a dazzling diversity and range of political education, action, and activity. Diane Stradling, US-CubaNormalization Organizing Committee, will offer a perspective on the movement’s Political Action options using the Final Action Plan from the March US-Cuba Normalization Conference held at Fordham University in New York City and used in the Boston satellite program, and offer a summary of possible ways to be involved.
As the Brookline Interactive Group/BIG is recording the in-person program and provide a high quality video fairly immediately, the program concludes with a brief presentation on the October 13-15 NNOC meeting and its events by Sussen Gazal, on the meeting organizing and program planning committees. We’re inviting other Cuba solidarity and related Brookline organizations to offer 1-2 minute presentations on their work before that.
The program will conclude before 4:00. Light refreshments will be available. This is a mask-friendly event.
