SUMMARY:Peace Prize Women Strive for Peace & Justice
DESCRIPTION:What can we learn from them in these turbulent times?: Emily Greene Balch (1867-1961) and Jane Addams (1860-1935) \nBrilliant Emily Greene Balch (EGB) grew up in Jamaica Plain\, helped to establish a settlement house in Boston\, and taught pioneering social economics at Wellesley College for 22 years. She went to work for WILPF in Europe using her multiple language\, analytical\, and writing skills which the charismatic\, also brilliant\, Jane Addams depended on. Both were prolific writers and worked HARD all their lives to stop and prevent wars. They also had balance in their lives. \nThis event covers what these women\, particularly EGB\, offered the world…and how it could be utilized today. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProgram: \n10:45am – Introductions \n\n11am – Catia Confortini\, Professor of Peace & Justice Studies\, Wellesley College – “Race and Imperialism in the Work of Emily Greene Balch” \n\n11:45am – Video-1995 Emily Greene Balch Commemoration\, Wellesley College \n12:30pm – Gloria McMillan\, Videographer and editor (Children of Steel) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister to attend. \n \nCosponsored by JP Historical Society\, Massachusetts Peace Action\, Boston Women’s Heritage Trail\, Wellesley College Peace & Justice Studies\, Peace & Justice Committee of Cambridge Friends Meeting.
