DESCRIPTION:A call for help tabling and petition gathering for Cuba this Saturday at noon at Park street station \nThis Saturday the international flotilla in solidarity with Cuba arrives for a big solidarity action in Havana. (They are delivering a significant amount of aid as well) Some of us are hoping to have an event in Boston in solidarity with those events in Cuba. Would you be available for a tabling/standout/leafleting event at Boston Common at noon. We hope to have at least a handful of people collecting signatures on our petition calling for an end to Trump’s oil blockade which has cast the island into darkness some or all of the time and is causing great harm to Cuba’s people. \nOf course there is so much going on. but some of us thought that a Cuba solidarity action at this time when Trump is determined to overthrow Cuba’s government is very much in order and when a big solidarity action is taking place in Cuba itself. DESCRIPTION:Rally on Saturday\, February 14\nOutside Park Street Station\, Boston\n12 Noon to 1:15pm\nThis rally takes place during the worst crisis Cuba has ever faced as Trump is making sure no oil can reach Cuba. On January 29 he signed an executive order declaring a national emergency because of the alleged imminent threat that Cuba poses to our national security!! (The president seems to get a kick out of making up the most outrageous stories possible). In response to this “threat” he is placing significant tariffs on all goods from any country who dares to sell Cuba oil. \nOnce implemented this oil blockade means Cuba would be out of fuel by the end of this month. We will also raise our voices against even more draconian attacks on Cuba that could be coming soon. \nNow that Venezuelan oil is no longer available to Cuba\, we must support the efforts of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum to find a way to sell some of its oil to the island nation. Cuba. As she says\, “The problem we have now is that the United States said it will impose tariffs on any country that sells to Cuba” \nGiven the energy shortages that already exist in Cuba and the hardship primarily caused by 6 decades of embargo\, such an oil blockade guarantees starvation and widespread loss of life in Cuba. Electricity\, hospitals\, agricultural machinery and transportation will no longer be able to function. The president’s strategy is clear: to provoke a level of misery so profound that it leads to civil unrest and the toppling of the Cuban Government. \nBut this blockade of Cuban oil does not take place in a vacuum. By now it is clear that president Trump will do whatever he wants to get his way. He will destroy people\, universities\, cultural institutions and countries to further his ambitions for power and personal wealth. He wages war abroad and war against our rights at home with the same playbook of division\, extortion\, deprivation\, and fear. The people of Minneapolis and the people of Cuba may have more in common than they know – united as they are by a common enemy and a common vision of human solidarity. \nCuba may be Trump’s enemy. But it is not ours. It will only get bigger\, and the shock to them will be like nothing they have ever seen before.” \nThe Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court clearly defines “the blockade of the ports or coasts of a State by the armed forces of another State” as an act of aggression. This proclamation is an act of war. In response Venezuela’s government ordered its navy to escort tankers from port\, escalating the risk of confrontation (Boston Globe Dec. 18). \nThis blockade is only the latest U.S. provocation that includes murdering 95 civilians in boats off South America’s coast (Deliberately killing 2 survivors of these attacks while in the water); declaring a No Fly Zone over all Venezuelan airspace; and last week seizing an oil tanker carrying Venezuelan oil on the high seas. President Trump has told us that these attacks are only the beginning. \nThese provocations are backed up by a vast war armada\, equipped with the most modern missiles and bombers\, sitting off Venezuela’s coast\, In addition 15\,000 U.S. soldiers on those ships and in Puerto Rico are ready to invade at a moment’s notice. \nWith the situation getting more dangerous by the day\, the goal of the rally is to call on everyone to do what they can to prevent war. \nJoin us to Demand: \n\nAn immediate end to the Blockade of Venezuela’s ports\nEnding Trump’s piracy of oil tankers on the high seas.\nStopping all executions of civilians in small boats off the coast of South America\n\nAnd most important\, withdraw all the U.S. warships and weapons from the coast of Venezuela and bring our sailors\, airmen and marines home for the holidays where they belong.

SUMMARY:Block the Bombs Action Hour
DESCRIPTION:Since a ceasefire was announced on Oct 9\, Israel has committed over 700 violations and killed 386 Palestinians\, including\, on average\, two children per day. Congress must pass the Block the Bombs Act to bring about a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and across the region. \nThe Block the Bombs Act (H.R. 3565)\, which currently has 57 co-sponsors\, was introduced by Representatives Ramirez\, Jacobs\, Jayapal\, and Pocan. If adopted\, the bill would prohibit the President from selling\, transferring\, or exporting certain defense articles or services to Israel\, except in specified circumstances.These weapons have been used to inflict mass civilian casualties and destroy civilian infrastructure\, including 2000-lb bombs. When dropped\, they can lead to a half-mile radius of both building damage and severe injuries to humans\, including ruptured lungs\, burst sinuses\, and torn off limbs. \nU.S. weapons are responsible for tens of thousands of Palestinian deaths. Americans are tired of seeing it – 75% of Democratic voters\, and 60% of all voters\, oppose the US giving more weapons to Israel. They are also tired of paying for it with their taxes – $21.7B since October 7th. It is time for Congress to use its leverage as the controller of military aid to force Israel to abide by the ceasefire. \nJoin us for an action hour to call on our members of Congress to sign on. We will gather on Zoom\, go through a brief intro\, and make phone calls to Congress\, demanding they support this bill. And\, while enjoying blowing up dozens of civilians the president claims are drug dealers\, Trump has made it clear that President Maduro of Venezuela will be removed from power one way or another. \nDoes President Trump intend to kidnap President Maduro? Does he plan to assassinate him? Does he plan to invade the country and install a new leader in power while we steal the nation’s vast oil reserves? We don’t know. \nWe do know that we must act now to prevent a brewing disaster for Venezuela. \nWe have followed fools into Vietnam\, Iraq\, Afghanistan\, Cambodia\, Libya and into dozens of Regime Change operations from Iran to the Congo\, to Chile\, to Libya and Ukraine. She was active in Women in Black\, Belgrade on Resolution 1325: Women\, peace and Security. She finished MA in Gender Studies\, University of Belgrade. \nLinus Lanfermann-Baumann is a PhD candidate in Contemporary History at Graz University\, Austria. His research focuses on peace activism in the 1980s within the transatlantic triangle of West Germany\, Central America\, and the United States. \nOwen Madaus is a Master’s student in Conflict Resolution and Coexistence with experience in peacebuilding\, advocacy\, and community-based development. Owen led organizing for Boston’s Hiroshima/Nagasaki 80th anniversary commemoration and served with Massachusetts Peace Action and is a CPDCS Board member. \nNick Rabb is a postdoctoral researcher at California State University\, Los Angeles. He is a thinker and organizer motivated to help people think critically about politics and social life\, and strategies for a just\, cooperative\, and life-giving society.
