SUMMARY:Antiwar Open House
DESCRIPTION:  \nWe are Massachusetts Peace Action (MAPA)\, the largest peace organization in Massachusetts. We work to end the wars surrounding us\, and to support immigrants and social justice here at home. And we would love to explore with you the\nkinds of actions that would be of interest to you. One way to do so is to come to our Antiwar Open House next Thursday. That would give us the opportunity to find out your interests and to see if there is a match between what you are looking for and what opportunities for involvement we can provide. \nThe Antiwar Open House will be next May 14 at 6:30.   The meeting will be held in the Lounge of St. James Episcopal Church\, three blocks north of Porter Square in Cambridge. The location can be confusing. If you have not been to the venue before\, please review these directions and arrive a few minutes early to make sure you find us!  (The directions page are for the Parish Hall which is right across the hall from the Lounge.)   When you arrive\, call 617-466-9274 to get in the building. \nIf you want to get involved and can’t make it in to Cambridge\, drop us a line by email at info@masspeaceaction.org or call our office at 617-354-2169. \nWe are faced with enormous challenges in today’s world. We would love to work with you to confront them together. \nClick here if you can attend. \n

SUMMARY:Cuba after Castro
DESCRIPTION:Cuba in the Valley Film Series \nNBC and Kristen Welker made popular headlines with their interview of Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canal Bermudez and cynical questions such as “will you step down”\, also claiming their interview was “first” and “exclusive”. \nBut just days before Welker and NBC came  Abby Martin\, Matt Belen and Breakthrough News with an interview with Pres Diaz-Canal revealing who he actually is and represents and what actually is going on in Cuba. \nThe film chronicles Diaz-Canel’s formation as the first and to some an unexpected successor to the Castros — an unassuming organizer molded by the revolutionary process\, the first leader born after the Cuban Revolution. Confronting a perfect storm of intensified U.S. sanctions\, a media war\, a devastating pandemic\, and historic domestic protests. Díaz-Canel reflects on navigating these existential crises for the nation he has come to lead.  \nThrough his eyes and words we see a vision of revolutionary Cuba that you don’t get in the US press: a nation of collective values and defiance in the face of constant threats from the United States.  \nSponsored by Easthampton Public Library\, cosponsored by MAPA

SUMMARY:Organizing meeting to protest at Harvard Commencement
DESCRIPTION:A call for a solemn mass protest at the 2026 Harvard Commencement on May 28. \nIt is time to make both the genocide and raging ethnic cleansing of Palestine and our support for Palestinian self-determination visible once again. It’s time to pressure our educational\, medical\, cultural\, corporate and elected leaders who are collaborating with the genocide to end that support. \nThe biggest single event over the upcoming period that gives us the best chance to call much needed attention to this crisis is the Harvard Commencement on May 28. Harvard stands at the center of our universities’ strategy to help Israel and undermine opposition to Israeli criminal violence and dispossession of Palestinians. The commencement gives us the opportunity to reach the thousands and thousands of people coming to Harvard Square that day from all over the country and all over the world with our message and our demands. \nThis is a proposal for our third annual solemn vigil surrounding the outside walls of Harvard with our bodies\, signs and banners. Many of you participated in our commencement actions at the 2024 and 2025 commencements when 200 of us surrounded Harvard Yard with our solemn vigil in the morning as thousands started to pour through the gates. Our action received much support from those attending the festivities to whom we presented a powerful witness and provided important information about Harvard and the genocide. The press was swarming around the commencement and a number of us were interviewed and pictures were taken. We were part of the story those big commencement days in Cambridge. \nThere is a lot going on right now\, but not enough concerning Palestine. This is our opportunity to make a big deal out of what is happening in Gaza and the West Bank. \nWould you or your organization be willing to participate in the organizing committee for this Commencement action? The first organizing meeting will be held next Wednesday\, April 29 at 5:30pm at the Mass. Peace Action office in the St. James building complex at 1991 Massachusetts Ave\, north of Porter Square. Please sign up here or just show up next Wednesday. If you cannot attend\, but are interested in helping to organize this event\, please contact the Public Education and Action Team of Mass. Peace Action’s Gaza Committee at 617-623-5288 (landline\, no texts). Based on the response we will make a decision whether to proceed with putting together this year’s commencement protest. \nSign up if you can attend the organizing meeting or if you can help out to organize this effort. \nSee these directions to our office.

SUMMARY:Volunteer callout: Tabling Action—End US-Israeli aggression (Iran\, Palestine\, Lebanon)
DESCRIPTION:Hi everyone\, we are going to table again this Saturday\, April 25 from noon to 1pm outside of Park Street Station. The focus will be on ending the U.S. – Israeli war on Iran (and Gaza and Lebanon). We will get petitions signed and postcards filled out at the table while we leaflet and hold signs and the new Iran banner. \nWhile the present situation with the ceasefire is complicated\, our job is to keep the pressure on to cut off all present funding for this war of aggression\, to bring our 50\,000 troops home\, and to stop Trump’s request for billions more for the war. \nSo we need volunteers both for the tabling/petition gathering/ leafleting from noon to 1pm. \nPlease join us if you can starting at 11:30am. If you have questions please call 617-623-5288 \nOrganized by Paul Shannon\, MAPA Middle East Working Group \n  \n

SUMMARY:Earth's Greatest Enemy - A Film by Abby Martin
DESCRIPTION:Join your neighbors for this timely screening of “Earth’s Greatest Enemy” a new documentary film by Abby Martin\, that exposes the world’s biggest—and most unaccountable—polluter: the US military. https://earthsgreatestenemy.com/ \nExempt from international climate agreements and rarely scrutinized in mainstream reporting\, the Pentagon is the world’s single largest institutional polluter—spewing carbon\, contaminating water\, and scarring landscapes across the globe. Combining investigative journalism\, striking visuals\, and stories from impacted communities\, this film challenges audiences to rethink the hidden costs of a global military empire and its planetary consequences. Provocative\, urgent\, and eye-opening\, this is a documentary that will change how you see both the military and environmentalism. \n“Earth’s Greatest Enemy” reveals a hidden truth behind the climate crisis: the role of the U.S. military as the world’s largest institutional polluter\, tracing the link between war\, empire\, and ecological destruction. Drawing on powerful testimonies from veterans\, scientists\, and frontline communities\, it uncovers how military operations poison ecosystems\, accelerate global warming\, and sacrifice the future for endless expansion. From Alaska’s melting glaciers to contaminated bases across the U.S. and toxic battlefields abroad\, “Earth’s Greatest Enemy” delivers a provocative and unflinching examination of the untouchable institution playing an outsized role in the climate crisis. \n \nFree admission; donations are welcome!   Sign up today! \nVenue\nCalvary Church – Fellowship Hall*\n300 Massachusetts Ave\nArlington\, United States \nVenue is accessible \n*Fellowship Hall Entrance – side doors on Linwood Street up a set of exterior steps to red doors\n[alt. separate ground level entrance with elevator access to Hall on second floor] \nDoors open: 6:30 PM\nFilm starts: 7:00 PM\nRun time: 2 hrs\nPost Film Discussion until 9:30 PM\nLight refreshments provided \nSpecial thanks to Mass Peace Action’s Peace\, Justice and Climate working group and XR Boston for cosponsoring this film.\nThis event is being shown in conjunction with the Town of Arlington’s Ecofest.

SUMMARY:Responding to a World in Crisis: 2026 MAPA Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Join us at MAPA’s 2026 annual meeting! \nThe rogue actions of the Trump regime have culminated in a dizzying array of global upheavals.  As we face a challenge of historic proportions\, MAPA activists are redoubling our efforts across the Commonwealth\, reaching into growing movements and building a renewed commitment to peace. \nWe will begin the meeting hearing from Board members Evan McKay\, Tony Van Der Meer\, and Keith Harvey (pictured above) about the current crises created by our country’s aggressive foreign policy\, how this is affecting the domestic political environment\, and about MAPA’s work in both arenas. \nAfter a Q&A period\, we will review the organization’s finances\, consider and vote on proposed amendments to the MAPA bylaws\, and elect members to the Board of Directors. The last part of the meeting will be devoted to a small group discussion and activity designed to inspire\, build community\, and strengthen our resolve to meet the challenges ahead. \nAGENDA \n2:00pm: Registration Opens; Meet and Greet over heavy hors d’oeuvres\n2:30pm: Welcome\, Land Acknowledgement\, & Overview of Day\n2:35pm: Featured speakers\, board members Evan McKay\, Tony Van Der Meer\, and Keith Harvey followed by Q and A\n3:05pm: Board endorsements for the upcoming 2026 Congressional elections\n3:27pm: Business meeting\n4:02pm: Board Transitions and Election of New Board Members \n4:22pm: Small group discussion and activity focused on our theme Responding to a World in Crisis \nNominations to the Board of Directors \n \nProposed amendments to the MAPA bylaws\nThe Board of Directors have passed a resolution proposing changes to the bylaws pertaining to the Board size and the composition of the Executive Committee. After review\, members will vote whether to accept or reject the following changes: \n\n\n\n\n\n\nSection 3.03: Currently\, MAPA bylaws limit the Board size to at least three and no more than 25 Directors. SUMMARY:From Ground Zero
DESCRIPTION:We present From Ground Zero\, a powerful collection of short films by 22 Palestinian filmmakers living through war and genocide in Gaza. \nThe stories in Palestine’s Official Submission for the 2025 Academy Awards\, From Ground Zero\, capture the unyielding steadfastness of the human spirit and enduring creativity that thrives even in the face of relentless devastation through a unique blend of animation\, documentary\, and fiction. \nFrom Ground Zero was created by filmmaker Rashid Masharawi and designed to give a voice to the people of Gaza and to document their day-to-day experiences\, many of which often go unheard by the outside world. In a war-torn society\, where artistic creation is extremely complex\, the project sought to capture the diversity of perspectives of Gazans through slice-of-life short films\, ranging anywhere from three to six minutes in length. Filmmakers were allowed to tell their story through any genre and cinematic storytelling platform\, from fiction to documentary to animation. \nAfter the film we will hear from Zohaib Qureshi\, a doctor in physical therapy. Dr. Qureshi works  in Neuro-Oncology Amputee Rehab in Dallas\, Texas.  He volunteered in Gaza  and came back in March 2026. \nThe film will be shown in the Parish Hall of St. James Episcopal Church\, three blocks north of Porter Square in Cambridge.  The location can be confusing.  If you have not been to the venue before\, please review these directions and arrive a few minutes early to make sure you find us!

SUMMARY:Emergency Protests: Stop the US-Israeli War on Iran
DESCRIPTION:Rally to demand a complete end to the US-Israel Wars on Iran and Lebanon \nWednesday\, April 8 \nBoston\, 6pm – Park Street Station \nLowell\, 6pm – City Hall \nWorcester\, 6pm – City Hall \nHolyoke\, 6:30 pm – Veterans Memorial Park \nEasthampton\, 5pm – Nashwannuck Pond \nOn Tuesday morning\, President Trump threatened to commit mass war crimes in Iran: “A whole civilization will die tonight\, never to be brought back again\,” if the Iranian government did not meet his demands by 8 PM. \n90 minutes before the deadline\, the President announced that an agreement had been reached for a two-week ceasefire. The exact details of the deal are unclear. What is clear is that the President of the United States is conducting foreign policy by threatening genocide. \nIn the last 5 weeks\, the governments of Israel and the United States have killed over 1\,600 civilians\, including 244 children\, in Iran. Simultaneously\, Israel has killed over 1500 Lebanese people\, including 130 children\, with US weapons\, and ethnically cleansed South Lebanon. They have deceptively used the cover of diplomacy to assassinate Iranian negotiators and leaders. They have endangered the entire region and wasted billions of dollars. They have created an unnecessary shock on the world economy that is threatening the wellbeing of billions. \nA ceasefire agreement is welcome\, but it is not enough. President Trump has revealed that he is dangerously unfit for office. Tomorrow\, we will join with activists across the world to call for an immediate and complete end to the illegal wars on Iran and Lebanon. \nBoston rally sponsored by MAPA\, About Face\, Alliance for Water Justice in Palestine\, Answer Coalition\, Boston Democratic Socialists of America\, CD8 for Palestine\, If Not Now\, Jewish Voice for Peace Boston\, Mass. 50501\, Military Families Speak Out\, National Iranian American Council\, Palestinian Youth Movement\, SEIU Local 509\, Standing Up for Racial Justice\, Party for Socialism and Liberation\, Veterans for Peace.

SUMMARY:Antiwar Open House
DESCRIPTION:Almost 1\,000 people signed petitions\, carried signs\, and reached out at NO KINGS III last Saturday\, March 28\, to express resistance to Trump’s wars on Iran and various other countries. The signed petitions will be sent to our elected officials in Congress to let them know we expect them to stand up to the KING and cut off all funding for his disastrous wars. Opposition to these wars carried out by a cruel King  is building and media coverage of the massive NO KINGS demonstrations around the country make it clear that rage among young people against the U.S.-Israeli illegal war of aggression against Iran was a top reason for many young people joining. \nWe are Massachusetts Peace Action (MAPA). Every day we work to stop this KING’s wars and end his cruelty toward our immigrant neighbors as we try to build a country on the bedrock of community. Do you think you would like to get more involved in preventing Trump from sending ICE into our cities and ground troops into Iran? Or stopping his $200 billion request for additional funding for his war against Iran war\, funding that is  taken from our own communities? Or creating a solid wall of opposition to his collaboration with the continuing genocide in Gaza? Or ending his illegal oil blockade of Cuba that is wreaking such suffering on its people? Or standing against his continuing extra-judicial murders of civilians in boats in the Caribbean\, his abduction of Venezuela’s President\, and his insistence that he will run Venezuela and take its oil? \nThe meeting will be held in the Lounge of St. James Episcopal Church\, three blocks north of Porter Square in Cambridge. The location can be confusing. If you have not been to the venue before\, please review these directions and arrive a few minutes early to make sure you find us!  (The directions page are for the Parish Hall which is right across the hall from the Lounge.) \n

SUMMARY:Will the Real Terrorist Please Stand Up
DESCRIPTION:Boats of armed Cuban Americans trying to land in Cuba like a little Bay of Piglets.  Trump cutting off all oil and threatening military action “I can do anything I want with the Island”.  Threatening countries in the Caribbean with who knows what if they use Cuba’s medical services.  And calling Cuba a terrorist and hostile country. Who’s the terrorist?\n\nThe inimitable Saul Landau with his partner Danny Glover\, take on the question in this 1 hour film:  Will the Real Terrorist Stand Up.  Then we will have a discussion — including a report back on the Nuestra America Convoy that just went to Cuba from 36 countries with some 500 people\, including 150 people from the US\, and several tons of medical aid delivered to hospitals and clinics.  Hope you can come.  And please take this action to tell Congress to pass this resolution forbidding Trump to take military action without consulting Congress.

SUMMARY:End Trump's Oil blockade of Cuba
DESCRIPTION:A call for help tabling and petition gathering for Cuba this Saturday at noon at Park street station \nThis Saturday the international flotilla in solidarity with Cuba arrives for a big solidarity action in Havana. (They are delivering a significant amount of aid as well) Some of us are hoping to have an event in Boston in solidarity with those events in Cuba. Would you be available for a tabling/standout/leafleting event at Boston Common at noon. We hope to have at least a handful of people collecting signatures on our petition calling for an end to Trump’s oil blockade which has cast the island into darkness some or all of the time and is causing great harm to Cuba’s people. \nOf course there is so much going on. but some of us thought that a Cuba solidarity action at this time when Trump is determined to overthrow Cuba’s government is very much in order and when a big solidarity action is taking place in Cuba itself. Please join us on Saturday at noon. If you have any questions call Paul Shannon at 617-623-5288 and leave a message.

DESCRIPTION:President Trump has launched a regime change war on Iran\, without approval from Congress\, while negotiations are going on. \nRally Monday\, March 2\, 6pm\, at Park Street\, Boston to denounce this criminal agression by our government and demand an immediate end to the conflict. \nTrump’s unprovoked\, illegal attack on Iran is an act of war that threatens to cause unthinkable death and destruction. But the people of this country reject another endless war and will take to the streets now and make our voices heard. \nIran has not attacked the United States. The government has been engaged in diplomatic negotiations up to the very last moment\, and has again and again insisted that it has no intention of developing a nuclear weapons program (which Trump claims to have “obliterated” last year anyway). SUMMARY:Stop Trump’s Oil Blockade of Cuba
DESCRIPTION:Rally on Saturday\, February 14\nOutside Park Street Station\, Boston\n12 Noon to 1:15pm\nThis rally takes place during the worst crisis Cuba has ever faced as Trump is making sure no oil can reach Cuba. On January 29 he signed an executive order declaring a national emergency because of the alleged imminent threat that Cuba poses to our national security!! (The president seems to get a kick out of making up the most outrageous stories possible). In response to this “threat” he is placing significant tariffs on all goods from any country who dares to sell Cuba oil. \nOnce implemented this oil blockade means Cuba would be out of fuel by the end of this month. We will also raise our voices against even more draconian attacks on Cuba that could be coming soon. \nNow that Venezuelan oil is no longer available to Cuba\, we must support the efforts of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum to find a way to sell some of its oil to the island nation. Cuba. As she says\, “The problem we have now is that the United States said it will impose tariffs on any country that sells to Cuba” \nGiven the energy shortages that already exist in Cuba and the hardship primarily caused by 6 decades of embargo\, such an oil blockade guarantees starvation and widespread loss of life in Cuba. Electricity\, hospitals\, agricultural machinery and transportation will no longer be able to function. The president’s strategy is clear: to provoke a level of misery so profound that it leads to civil unrest and the toppling of the Cuban Government. \nBut this blockade of Cuban oil does not take place in a vacuum. By now it is clear that president Trump will do whatever he wants to get his way. He will destroy people\, universities\, cultural institutions and countries to further his ambitions for power and personal wealth. He wages war abroad and war against our rights at home with the same playbook of division\, extortion\, deprivation\, and fear. The people of Minneapolis and the people of Cuba may have more in common than they know – united as they are by a common enemy and a common vision of human solidarity. \nCuba may be Trump’s enemy. But it is not ours. Join us at noon on Valentines Day outside Park Street Station in downtown Boston to let the world know this basic reality. \nSponsored by the statewide “No War on Venezuela Network” and Massachusetts Peace Action \nFor Information call 617-354-2169

SUMMARY:Power Hour: Support the Israel Divestment Bill
DESCRIPTION:Join MAPA’s Power Hour on Jan. 29 at 6pm to make calls in support of the Israel Divestment Bill. \nDespite the supposed “ceasefire” in Gaza\, Israel has continued its genocide of Palestinians through airstrikes\, gunfire\, blocking aid\, and destroying homes. The Israel Divestment Bill is as relevant now as it was before the ceasefire was announced. \nThis bill is currently in the Public Service Committee in the MA House. We will be making calls to the two chairs of the committee to pressure them to vote the bill out favorably. If it does go forward\, it can then eventually be voted on by the full state legislature.  Read more about the bill. \nTake this step to make the State of Massachusetts divest from genocide.
