Contact: Brian Garvey, brian@masspeaceaction.org When: Friday, February 18th, 12pm-1pm Where: Office of Congressman Seth Mouton, 21 Front St, Salem, MA 02970 Congressman Seth Moulton has been one of the worst members of Congress on the issue of Yemen. On February 18th at 12 pm activists from Massachusetts Peace Action and the Raytheon Antiwar Campaign will demonstrate at the office of Seth Moulton at 21 Front St. in Salem, MA to call on the congressman to change his position on the US role in the brutal war on Yemen. On February the 15th Rep. Moulton led a letter asking the Biden administration to label the de facto government of Yemen as a terrorist organization, a move that would create, “an American blockade of food imports to Yemen to intentionally cause mass civilian starvation,” in the words of US Senator Chris Murphy. This advice, if followed would worsen the world’s worst humanitarian crisis. Last Summer Rep. Moulton voted against an amendment to end logistical support for Saudi Arabia’s Royal Air Force. That support keeps Saudi planes in the air over Yemen, bombing civilians. He was one of only 11 members of the Democratic Party to vote against that amendment last September. Activists labeled him a member of the “Extermination 11.” “We want answers,” said Paul Shannon of the Raytheon Antiwar Campaign, a coalition of groups highlighting the Massachusetts weapons manufacturers and their arms sales to Saudi Arabia and the UAE. “A War Powers Resolution is being introduced in the House of Representatives to end US participation in this brutal, illegal war.” Rep. Moulton will have to go on record, and soon. He voted for a similar War Powers Resolution during the Trump presidency to stop the war in Yemen. “Congressman Moulton, are you going to take the side of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates in their war to destroy the people of Yemen,” Shannon asked, “or will you stand against the world’s worst humanitarian crisis?” |
