James Oliver Buswell IV: Virtuoso Violinist, Conductor & Educator

We mourn the loss of James Buswell, the violinist who with his wife Carol Ou played several magnificent Music for Peace concerts in the last several years. Jamie will be missed, but never replaced.

American virtuoso violinist, conductor, Grammy nominated recording artist, and educator, James Buswell passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021 in Boston. He was 74. James Buswell first burst onto the music scene as the youngest soloist with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra at age seven. His musical career spanned almost 7 decades and included performances of over 100 violin concerti on 5 continents with major orchestras and many of the greatest conductors. Through his teaching, chamber music playing, conducting, and numerous recordings, he has touched countless lives. The music world today mourns the loss of this musical and intellectual giant. Jamie was the beloved husband of cellist, Carol Ou with whom he shared 21 years of marriage. Cherished father of Anna Buswell, William Buswell, Joshua Buswell, and Rachel English. Also survived by 4 grandchildren, and his brother-in-law, Sam Ou of Boston. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to gather for a Funeral Service celebrating his life at the First Congregational Church, 121 W. Foster St., Melrose on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 10am.
