Who’s the terrorist?\n\nThe inimitable Saul Landau with his partner Danny Glover\, take on the question in this 1 hour film:  Will the Real Terrorist Stand Up.  Then we will have a discussion — including a report back on the Nuestra America Convoy that just went to Cuba from 36 countries with some 500 people\, including 150 people from the US\, and several tons of medical aid delivered to hospitals and clinics.  Hope you can come.  And please take this action to tell Congress to pass this resolution forbidding Trump to take military action without consulting Congress.

SUMMARY:Antiwar Open House
DESCRIPTION:Almost 1\,000 people signed petitions\, carried signs\, and reached out at NO KINGS III last Saturday\, March 28\, to express resistance to Trump’s wars on Iran and various other countries. The signed petitions will be sent to our elected officials in Congress to let them know we expect them to stand up to the KING and cut off all funding for his disastrous wars. Opposition to these wars carried out by a cruel King  is building and media coverage of the massive NO KINGS demonstrations around the country make it clear that rage among young people against the U.S.-Israeli illegal war of aggression against Iran was a top reason for many young people joining. \nWe are Massachusetts Peace Action (MAPA). Every day we work to stop this KING’s wars and end his cruelty toward our immigrant neighbors as we try to build a country on the bedrock of community. Do you think you would like to get more involved in preventing Trump from sending ICE into our cities and ground troops into Iran? Or stopping his $200 billion request for additional funding for his war against Iran war\, funding that is  taken from our own communities? Or creating a solid wall of opposition to his collaboration with the continuing genocide in Gaza? Or ending his illegal oil blockade of Cuba that is wreaking such suffering on its people? Or standing against his continuing extra-judicial murders of civilians in boats in the Caribbean\, his abduction of Venezuela’s President\, and his insistence that he will run Venezuela and take its oil? \nThe meeting will be held in the Lounge of St. James Episcopal Church\, three blocks north of Porter Square in Cambridge. The exact details of the deal are unclear. What is clear is that the President of the United States is conducting foreign policy by threatening genocide. \nIn the last 5 weeks\, the governments of Israel and the United States have killed over 1\,600 civilians\, including 244 children\, in Iran. Simultaneously\, Israel has killed over 1500 Lebanese people\, including 130 children\, with US weapons\, and ethnically cleansed South Lebanon. They have deceptively used the cover of diplomacy to assassinate Iranian negotiators and leaders. They have endangered the entire region and wasted billions of dollars. They have created an unnecessary shock on the world economy that is threatening the wellbeing of billions. \nA ceasefire agreement is welcome\, but it is not enough. President Trump has revealed that he is dangerously unfit for office. DESCRIPTION:Rafael Hernández\, leading scholar of both Cuban politics and Cuba-US relations takes on the question of the outlook and options for Cuba in the face of the US all out siege and oil blockade.  How long can Cuba hold out?  What is the nature of the crisis internally?  What are the plans and prospects for the Cuban government in the face of this dire situation? \nHernández is a Cuban writer\, scholar and political analyst. He is the editor of Revista Temas\, the leading Cuban magazine in the social sciences and the humanities\, temas.cult.cu\, with its blog Catelejo\, a space for other well known Cuban intellectuals\, with articles such as the recent\, Is Cuba Collapsing\, by Marta Nuñez. He leads a monthly gathering\, Ultimo Jueves\, which brings together intellectuals\, academics and ordinary Cubans to discuss and debate the pressing issues of the day.  His publications include several books and essays on Cuban and U.S. policies\, inter-American relations\, international security\, migration\, Cuban culture\, civil society and politics\, including Looking at Cuba: Essays on Culture and Civil Society (2001)\, The Other War: Studies on Strategy and International Security (2000)\, The History of Havana (2006) and Shall We Play Ball? Debating U.S.-Cuban Relations (2011). \n \nMerri Ansara\, moderator\, is the coordinator of the Cuba Subcommittee in MAPA’s Latin America/Caribbean Working Group (LA/CWG) . DESCRIPTION:Via Turn Purple 2 Blue:\n\nGreater Assabet Indivisible Network (GAIN) invites you to stand in solidarity with immigrants and resistance to ICE and their cruel and lawless detention of our neighbors Thursdays from 11am-1pm. Regardless of any other political views\, you are welcome to join us and demand Justice 4 All so long as you do so non-violently. \nOur friends at Bearing Witness have been hosting gatherings at this location for many weeks. We are an unaffiliated group\, but very much aligned with their values and mission. Our goal is to add to the total number of hours that citizens stand in non-violent opposition to the deplorable detainment conditions at this location. If you have been to Bearing Witness on Wednesdays\, we would love to have you at Justice 4 All Thursdays. \nSchedule (Starting Thursday\, September 4 – more dates to follow) \n11:00-11:30 Welcome; music; announcements\n11:30-12:30 Stand with signs along District Ave\n12:30-1:00 Optional short march down to Mall Rd. \nWhat happens at this ICE office? \nICE personnel depart from District Ave. in unmarked vans with tinted windows on missions to abduct immigrants across New England. Immigrants may also show up at the office for appointments. The facility on District Ave was never intended to be a detention center\, yet immigration lawyers and media interviews reveal that people are now being housed here in conditions that have been called “abysmal” and “unsanitary.” \nWhat to expect at Justice 4 All? \nWe are committed to nonviolence\, and we stand peacefully with signs outside the facility. We do not block the entrance\, we do not physically approach ICE agents as they walk to/from the parking lot\, and we do not block traffic on District Ave. \nSigns \nThis is a very targeted action outside the ICE facility\, so it’s not the venue for protesting other causes. Even though we care deeply about other issues\, while outside ICE we must remain focused on immigration.  \nParking and other tips \nFor parking\, please use the Macy’s overflow lot (75 Burlington Mall Road\, follow signs for Macy’s\, see map). For those with mobility challenges\, please keep in mind that the lots closest to ICE — the FAA lot beside ICE and the BAE Systems lot directly across the street from ICE — have both been blocked off. There are restaurants nearby (Clover\, Pressed Cafe\, Chipotle) to get food and use the bathroom. Before arriving\, please consider your own self-preservation (citizenship status) and self-care (sunscreen\, hydration\, etc.)

SUMMARY:From Ground Zero
DESCRIPTION:We present From Ground Zero\, a powerful collection of short films by 22 Palestinian filmmakers living through war and genocide in Gaza. \nThe stories in Palestine’s Official Submission for the 2025 Academy Awards\, From Ground Zero\, capture the unyielding steadfastness of the human spirit and enduring creativity that thrives even in the face of relentless devastation through a unique blend of animation\, documentary\, and fiction. \nFrom Ground Zero was created by filmmaker Rashid Masharawi and designed to give a voice to the people of Gaza and to document their day-to-day experiences\, many of which often go unheard by the outside world. In a war-torn society\, where artistic creation is extremely complex\, the project sought to capture the diversity of perspectives of Gazans through slice-of-life short films\, ranging anywhere from three to six minutes in length. Filmmakers were allowed to tell their story through any genre and cinematic storytelling platform\, from fiction to documentary to animation. \nAfter the film we will hear from Zohaib Qureshi\, a doctor in physical therapy. Dr. Qureshi works  in Neuro-Oncology Amputee Rehab in Dallas\, Texas.  He volunteered in Gaza  and came back in March 2026. \nThe film will be shown in the Parish Hall of St. James Episcopal Church\, three blocks north of Porter Square in Cambridge.  The location can be confusing.  If you have not been to the venue before\, please review these directions and arrive a few minutes early to make sure you find us!
