SUMMARY:Day of Action for Weapons and Fossil Fuel Divestment
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Tuesday\, May 20th\, from 12pm to 3:30pm for a day of action at the Massachusetts State House! \nRegister to attend. \n \nThe Massachusetts Public Fund is invested in entities involved with weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and climate risks. The focus of the day will be on two bills\, one divesting pension funds from entities involved with the manufacturing\, producing\, or selling of WMD\, and the other assessing the public fund investments for any climate risks and divesting the fund from those risks. We want the state to move our money away from unethical systems and reinvest in sustainable\, socially-responsible alternatives. \nNo experience is necessary! Trainings and briefings on the priority legislation\, an Act Promoting Responsible Investment (S.767/H.1264)\, and an act to Eliminate Climate Risk Investments (H.2811)\, will be provided. \nTraining sessions will be offered on Thursday\, May 15th at 7pm ET and Monday May 19th at 7pm ET. Please join us for ONE of the two sessions if you plan to attend lobby day. \nSchedule:\n12PM – Gather in room 167 at the State House\n12:30PM – Briefing\n1PM – 3:30PM – Lobby meetings\n3PM – Those not lobbying gather for rally outside State House (those lobbying stay in State House until final meeting is over)\n3:30PM – Rally begins \nRegister to attend. \n \nFor more information on the Responsible Investment Bill visit MAPA’s page. \nFor more information on the Fossil Fuel Divestment Bill visit the Warheads to Windmills page. \nOrganized by the Coalition for Responsible Investment\, Warheads to Windmills\, MAPA\, and Jewish Voice for Peace Boston

SUMMARY:Protecting Federal Investment in Public Education - Books Not Bombs
DESCRIPTION:Register to attend. \n \nProtecting Federal Investment in Public Education – Books Not Bombs \nThe threats to federal education programs have become acute. Funds for PELL grants\, title I and disability programs are at risk in the Trump/Musk Administration. The proposed termination of the Dept of Education will weaken other school programs. Their local school district organizations rarely address the federal budget. Following up on our earlier Oct 26\, 2024 Conference we will be gathering on Saturday May 24th\, 2:00 – 5:00 pm to explore paths to protect the federal budget supporting public schools\, and continuing to try to reach out to parents and grandparents among our Peace Action affiliates and their local allies. \n  \n2:05: Panel  1 – The Emerging Federal Public Education Budget\nChair – Prof. Jonathan King (MIT & Mass Peace Action Education Fund);\nCivilian versus Pentagon Budget Allocations – Deborah Weinstein (Coalition for Human Needs);\nImpacts on the Young – Denisha Jones (Defending the Early Years);\nImpacts on Graduate Students – Evan MacKay (Harvard UAW Local). \n2:45: Panel 2 – Choices in Federal and State Budgets:\nChair- Deb McCarthy (V-P of Mass Teachers Association)\nTax Cuts and Related Fallacies – Karen Dolan (Institute for Policy Studies);\nRoles for State Legislatures – Rep.
