SUMMARY:Justice 4 All Thursdays
DESCRIPTION:Via Turn Purple 2 Blue:\n\nGreater Assabet Indivisible Network (GAIN) invites you to stand in solidarity with immigrants and resistance to ICE and their cruel and lawless detention of our neighbors Thursdays from 11am-1pm. Regardless of any other political views\, you are welcome to join us and demand Justice 4 All so long as you do so non-violently. \nOur friends at Bearing Witness have been hosting gatherings at this location for many weeks. We are an unaffiliated group\, but very much aligned with their values and mission. Our goal is to add to the total number of hours that citizens stand in non-violent opposition to the deplorable detainment conditions at this location. If you have been to Bearing Witness on Wednesdays\, we would love to have you at Justice 4 All Thursdays. \nSchedule (Starting Thursday\, September 4 – more dates to follow) \n11:00-11:30 Welcome; music; announcements\n11:30-12:30 Stand with signs along District Ave\n12:30-1:00 Optional short march down to Mall Rd. \nWhat happens at this ICE office? \nICE personnel depart from District Ave. in unmarked vans with tinted windows on missions to abduct immigrants across New England. Immigrants may also show up at the office for appointments. The facility on District Ave was never intended to be a detention center\, yet immigration lawyers and media interviews reveal that people are now being housed here in conditions that have been called “abysmal” and “unsanitary.” \nWhat to expect at Justice 4 All? \nWe are committed to nonviolence\, and we stand peacefully with signs outside the facility. We do not block the entrance\, we do not physically approach ICE agents as they walk to/from the parking lot\, and we do not block traffic on District Ave. \nSigns \nThis is a very targeted action outside the ICE facility\, so it’s not the venue for protesting other causes. Even though we care deeply about other issues\, while outside ICE we must remain focused on immigration.  \nParking and other tips \nFor parking\, please use the Macy’s overflow lot (75 Burlington Mall Road\, follow signs for Macy’s\, see map). For those with mobility challenges\, please keep in mind that the lots closest to ICE — the FAA lot beside ICE and the BAE Systems lot directly across the street from ICE — have both been blocked off. There are restaurants nearby (Clover\, Pressed Cafe\, Chipotle) to get food and use the bathroom. Before arriving\, please consider your own self-preservation (citizenship status) and self-care (sunscreen\, hydration\, etc.)

SUMMARY:The Voice of Hind Rajab
DESCRIPTION:January 29\, 2024. Red Crescent volunteers receive an emergency call. A 5-year-old girl is trapped in a car under fire in Gaza\, pleading for rescue. While trying to keep her on the line\, they do everything they can to get an ambulance to her. Her name was Hind Rajab. \n\nThe Voice of Hind Rajab exposes the devastating reality of what it means to be a child in Gaza\, living under constant threat\, having your humanity questioned\, and being left unprotected. \nFollowing a critically acclaimed premiere at the Venice Film Festival in 2025\, a global theatrical release\, and nominations for the Academy Awards and BAFTAs\, the film has ignited global awareness and outrage. \nThis is not just another story from Gaza. It’s a call for justice and accountability. \n\nFree but RSVP required \nRSVP at: bit.ly/hindcambridge

SUMMARY:"Truth and Consequence"\, a Book by Daniel Ellsberg
DESCRIPTION:A talk with the book’s editors\, Michael Ellsberg and Jan Thomas.\n \nJoin us for a conversation with Michael Ellsberg\, son of the late Pentagon Papers whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg\, and Jan R. Thomas\, Daniel’s longtime assistant. The two are the editors of the recently published Truth and Consequence: Reflections on Catastrophe\, Civil Resistance\, and Hope\, a posthumous collection of Daniel’s previously unpublished writings.\n\nAlmost all Americans of a certain age\, and all students of political science and history\, know the name Daniel Ellsberg. And they mostly know him for his incredibly courageous act of leaking what became known as “The Pentagon Papers” – classified documents that told the truth of our government’s massive cover up of the prosecution of the Vietnam War.\nWhat is lesser-known by the average American is that Daniel\, at the tender age of 27\, had one of highest level security clearances in government as a top nuclear consultant and strategic analyst to the Rand corporation\, the Pentagon and the White House. And then later went on to be one of the most vociferous voices decrying the insanity of planning for a war that would effectively end civilization as we know it. He published this story in 2017 in the seminal book\, The Doomsday Machine: Confessions of a Nuclear War Planner. \nWhat is even lesser-known is that Daniel was a prolific writer\, but rarely published his writings. Now\, 3 years after his tragic passing from pancreatic cancer\, his son\, Michael Ellsberg\, in conjunction with Jan Thomas\, one of Daniel’s earliest assistants\, have collected and curated a volume of never-before published personal and professional musings\, notes and warnings that give deep tremendous insight into the thoughts behind this brilliant mind. \nPlease join us on Thursday\, June 25th at 7pm EDT as we welcome Michael and Jan to discuss this all important book.\nRegister to attend:

SUMMARY:The Real Origins of the Ukraine War\, and Why It Matters Today: with Prof. Ivan Katchanovski
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday June 23rd @ 7pm ET\n \nUkrainian-born Prof. Ivan Katchanovski\, a political scientist at the University of Ottawa\, will discuss his most recent book\, The Russia-Ukraine War and Its Origins: From the Maidan Massacre to the Ukraine War. His research into the Feb. 2014 Maidan protests\, massacre in Kiev\, and its aftermath refutes much of the dominant narrative of the Ukrainian and U.S. governments about the causes of the war. He’ll also discuss his research into the military realities of the past four years of war\, and the prospects for a negotiated peace settlement to prevent Ukraine from suffering even greater losses of soldiers\, territory\, and economic infrastructure. \nIvan Katchanovski teaches at the School of Political Studies at the University of Ottawa and has taught in the U.S. and Canada for many years. He has also authored The Maidan Massacre in Ukraine: The Mass Killing that Changed the World\, and co-authored Historical Dictionary of Ukraine\, part of the series Historical Dictionaries of Europe. \n

SUMMARY:Vets Say NO to the Iran War
DESCRIPTION:Over 150 veterans and military families occupied the rotunda of the Cannon House Office Building on April 20\, 2026 to protest the war in Iran. This webinar acknowledges and explores the resistance of enlisted soldiers and veterans to this illegal war. The webinar also takes up the war crimes committed by the US military involving the destruction of Iranian culture and the murder of Iranian people and the psychological impact of these crimes on soldiers. \n\nAbout Face is a group of active duty soldiers and veterans organizing to end the US foreign policy of permanent war.  Originally formed in 2004 as Iraq Veterans Against the War\, they have been speaking out out against US wars based on lies and advocating for active duty and returning veterans since then.  \nSpeakers: \nKevin Benderman is a Board Member of About Face and served ten years in the US Army. First deployed to Iraq in March 2003\, he refused to return for a second deployment because of the lies that preceded the invasion\, the harm being done to the Iraqi people\, and because it went against everything he thought it meant to be a soldier. Denied conscientious objector status\, he was court-martialed\, confined for 15 months\, dishonorably discharged and lost all benefits. \nJeff Parente is a graduate of Penn State University and an Iraq War\, Marine Corps veteran. He has been a member of Veterans for Peace for ten years and About Face: Veterans Against the War for almost 3 years as well as working with multiple other organizations. A committed peace activist\, he is a critic of the military industrial complex ad advocates for cutting defense spending to fund human needs. \nBahar Sharafi is an Iranian-American activist born in Tehran with family there.  Now living in Dorchester\, she is a MAPA board member and co-chair of the MAPA-initiated Stop the US War on Iran committee. She is a volunteer leader with the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Iranian American Council\, and a co-founder of CD8 for Palestine. She will show her video “A Glimpse of Iran” during her presentation.  \nJohn Schuchardt\, J.D.. is co-director of The House of Peace together with his wife Carrie Schuchardt. As a 1stLt.\, he resigned his commission from the US Marine Corps in 1965 after the marines’ landing at DaNang.  For 50 years\, he has been active with Plowshares direct disarmament actions\, trials\, and imprisonments; A member of AFSC\, MAPA\, and Veterans for Peace\, he helped realize the construction of four Peace Pagodas with Japanese Buddhist Order Nipponzan Myohoji.  In 2010\, he participated in a citizen diplomacy delegation to Iran. In 2019 he was part of a Global Network delegation to Russia. \nMike Prysner is Executive Director of the Center on Conscience and War. He joined the US Army ust before 9/11 and took part in the invasion of Iraq. When he returned home he got involved in the struggle against the war\, leading civil disobedience against the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan.  Many of the active duty soldiers who accessed the media he has produced\, including the podcast Eyes Left\, have become war resisters. \nNancy Goldner\, LICSW\, has been an anti-war activist since the Vietnam War. She has supported the emotional recovery of veterans from the trauma of America’s endless wars since founding the Returning Veterans Response Network in 2007. She is a member of the Racial Justice Action Group of Mass Peace Action. \nRegister to attend:

SUMMARY:Organizing for Progressive Leadership in CD1
DESCRIPTION:Those of us in CD1 have long been trying to figure out how to replace Rep. Richard Neal with someone who actually is progressive\, who actually will respond to at least some of our agenda\, who actually will meet with us and listen to us. Several candidates whom we have backed have tried to do this over the last decade. We have not so far succeeded. \nSo now we have another chance. With Jeromie Whalen. We are sure that you already know about him and probably are backing him. \nWe in Massachusetts Peace Action\, the whole board\, voted to endorse Jeromie\, and now we are trying to figure out how we can help make sure he wins the September primary. We want to ask you to come to a meeting. Yes\, another meeting – June 10 at 7 pm\, via zoom.  We are reaching out to you\, our MAPA members in CD1 and our best and most progressive buddies in W. Mass and CD1\, to talk with us as to what we in MAPA can do with you to push Jeromie forward to victory. \nWe have a few ideas: Houseparties in different parts of the CD. Joining the campaign in doorknocking\, taking voter registration forms with us. Making sure there are house signs everywhere. Donating. But we actually would like to ask for your help to help us figure out where we  can make the most difference. \nWill you join us? \n \n

SUMMARY:Cuba After Castro
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a unique opportunity to learn about what really is happening in Cuba and just who the top leader of the country is.   Massachusetts Peace Action is holding an exclusive showing of the film\, “Cuba After Castro”\, to be followed by a discussion facilitated by me\, Merri Ansara\, just returned from many months in Cuba.   \nMonths before NBC and Kristen Welker made popular headlines with their interview with Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canal\, Abby Martin and Matt Belen with Breakthrough News made their nterview with President Diaz-Canal\,  an indepth view beyond trite headlines and questions like “will you step down\,” revealing more fully who he actually is and represents and what actually is going on in Cuba.   \nThe first leader of Cuba born after the Cuban Revolution\, President Diaz-Canal came into office confronting a perfect storm of intensified U.S. sanctions\, a media war\, a devastating pandemic\, and historic domestic protests. Díaz-Canel reflects on navigating these existential crises for the nation he has come to lead.  \nMiguel Diaz-Canal was nominated by and succeeds Raul Castro\, last of the Castros to hold power in Cuba. Now Raul Castro has been indicted by the United States for a fatal incident in 1996 when 2 American planes piloted by Cuban Americans from Miami\, flew right into Cuban airspace despite many warnings to the U.S. from Cuba. \nBased on the indictment of Raul Castro\, reminiscent of the kidnapping of Venezuela’s President Maduro\, the United States is threatening to invade Cuba\, making it more of an imperative than ever to understand what is happening in Cuba\, and just who the President of this country is. \nJoin us for the film and for a discussion at Mass Peace Action in Cambridge May 29\, 7:00 pm.. SUMMARY:The Deep Roots of the Ukraine War\, with Richard Sakwa
DESCRIPTION:While all eyes are focused elsewhere\, the war in Ukraine rages on. And the distortion of the war and its causes continue to lead the U.S. and the west down a road that has led to catastrophe for Ukraine and that continues to feed the danger of nuclear war. Professor Richard Sakwa helps us break through this distorted narrative about the war to a deeper understanding of this tragic conflict that is wreaking such human\, physical and ecological damage in Ukraine. \nOn May 19 at noon join Professor Richard Sakwa\, among the leading authorities on Ukraine and Russia\, to delve deeper into understanding the war\, diplomacy\, and peace movement priorities in this continuing dangerous time. Richard Sakwa is a professor of Russian and European Politics at the University of Kent and is widely recognized as the leading Russia scholar in Europe. The webinar begins at noon eastern time because of the difference in time zones in the U.S. from those in Europe. \nProfessor Sakwa will be discussing the subject of his new book\, The Russo-Ukrainian War: Follies of Empire. The number of casualties in the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war is rapidly approaching 1.5 million\, with no resolution in sight … a staggering reality. Seeking to make what sense is possible of this catastrophic conflict\, Richard Sakwa meticulously explores the origins\, course\, and consequences of the war in the sweeping context of global and domestic politics since 1945. \nSakwa’s balanced analysis centers on what he perceives as the five levels of the conflict: the dynamics of Ukrainian politics\, the evolution of Russo-Ukrainian relations\, the relationship between Russia and the West\, broad changes in international politics\, and the prospects for a viable and sustainable peace. In explaining—without endorsing—the logic behind actions on all sides\, his goal is to contribute to a path toward that peace. \n \nRichard Sakwa is Emeritus Professor of Politics at the University of Kent at Canterbury\, UK. After graduating in History from the London School of Economics\, he took a PhD from the Centre for Russian and East European Studies at the University of Birmingham. He held lectureships at the Universities of Essex and California\, Santa Cruz\, before joining the University of Kent in 1987. He has written widely on comparative politics\, international relations and political philosophy\, with a focus on Russian and European affairs. His latest books are The Putin Paradox (Bloomsbury\, 2020)\, Deception: Russiagate and the New Cold War (Lexington Books\, 2022)\, The Russia Scare: Fake News and Genuine Threat (Routledge\, 2022)\, The Lost Peace: How the West Failed to Prevent a Second Cold War (Yale University Press\, 2023) and The Culture of the Second Cold War (Anthem Press\, 2025). His book The Russo-Ukrainian War: Follies of Empire was published by Lynne Rienner Publishers in March 2026. \n \n \nSponsored by MAPA’s Ukraine: A Time for Peace Campaign.

DESCRIPTION:In order to confront the ghosts that haunt him\, Palestinian director Raed Andoni assembles an eclectic group of ex prisoners to recreate the Al-Moskobiya\, Israel’s main interrogation centre\, where he was himself jailed at age 18. It was awarded the best documentary at the Berlinale 2017. Also\, it was selected as the Palestinian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards.   The film runs 94 minutes and will be followed by discussion. \nDirections: The film will be shown in the Parish Hall of St. James Episcopal Church\, three blocks north of Porter Square in Cambridge. SUMMARY:Antiwar Open House
DESCRIPTION:  \nWe are Massachusetts Peace Action (MAPA)\, the largest peace organization in Massachusetts. We work to end the wars surrounding us\, and to support immigrants and social justice here at home. And we would love to explore with you the\nkinds of actions that would be of interest to you. One way to do so is to come to our Antiwar Open House next Thursday. That would give us the opportunity to find out your interests and to see if there is a match between what you are looking for and what opportunities for involvement we can provide. \nThe Antiwar Open House will be next May 14 at 6:30.   The meeting will be held in the Lounge of St. James Episcopal Church\, three blocks north of Porter Square in Cambridge. The location can be confusing. If you have not been to the venue before\, please review these directions and arrive a few minutes early to make sure you find us!  (The directions page are for the Parish Hall which is right across the hall from the Lounge.)   When you arrive\, call 617-466-9274 to get in the building. \nIf you want to get involved and can’t make it in to Cambridge\, drop us a line by email at info@masspeaceaction.org or call our office at 617-354-2169. \nWe are faced with enormous challenges in today’s world. We would love to work with you to confront them together. \nClick here if you can attend. \n

SUMMARY:Cuba after Castro
DESCRIPTION:Cuba in the Valley Film Series \nNBC and Kristen Welker made popular headlines with their interview of Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canal Bermudez and cynical questions such as “will you step down”\, also claiming their interview was “first” and “exclusive”. \nBut just days before Welker and NBC came  Abby Martin\, Matt Belen and Breakthrough News with an interview with Pres Diaz-Canal revealing who he actually is and represents and what actually is going on in Cuba. \nThe film chronicles Diaz-Canel’s formation as the first and to some an unexpected successor to the Castros — an unassuming organizer molded by the revolutionary process\, the first leader born after the Cuban Revolution. Confronting a perfect storm of intensified U.S. sanctions\, a media war\, a devastating pandemic\, and historic domestic protests. Díaz-Canel reflects on navigating these existential crises for the nation he has come to lead.  \nThrough his eyes and words we see a vision of revolutionary Cuba that you don’t get in the US press: a nation of collective values and defiance in the face of constant threats from the United States.  \nSponsored by Easthampton Public Library\, cosponsored by MAPA

SUMMARY:Boston May Day 2026: Book End Rally!
DESCRIPTION:Friday May 1st\, 4:30pm – 6:00pm\nBoston Common\n139 Tremont Street\nMay Day will be a day of action in and around Boston\, all culminating to a final rally at the Boston Common! Workers have the power\, not the billionaires! \nTrade unions and allied peace and justice organizations will be marking International Workers Day this Friday\, May 1\, with marches\, rallies and\, in some cases\, work stoppages in communities across the country. Join us\, and other MAPA members\, for actions in Boston and across Massachusetts! \nMay Day is historically a time to celebrate the solidarity\, dignity\, and fight for the rights of workers and immigrants\, but this year the stakes are higher than ever. Attacks on every aspect of working people’s lives – decent wages\, education\, health care\, affordable housing\, food security\, voting rights\, and the ability to live on a peaceful and healthy planet – are rampant. \nThe calls of resistance this year will include such messages as “Workers’ Needs\, Not Billionaires!” and “No Work\, No School\, No Shopping!” \nOther actions in Boston can also be found here: https://linktr.ee/BostonMayDay2026 \nFor a list of Mayday actions across the country\, as well as toolkits\, and other helpful resources visit: \nwww.maydaystrong.org
