SUMMARY:Justice 4 All Thursdays
DESCRIPTION:Via Turn Purple 2 Blue:\n\nGreater Assabet Indivisible Network (GAIN) invites you to stand in solidarity with immigrants and resistance to ICE and their cruel and lawless detention of our neighbors Thursdays from 11am-1pm. Regardless of any other political views\, you are welcome to join us and demand Justice 4 All so long as you do so non-violently. \nOur friends at Bearing Witness have been hosting gatherings at this location for many weeks. We are an unaffiliated group\, but very much aligned with their values and mission. Our goal is to add to the total number of hours that citizens stand in non-violent opposition to the deplorable detainment conditions at this location. If you have been to Bearing Witness on Wednesdays\, we would love to have you at Justice 4 All Thursdays. \nSchedule (Starting Thursday\, September 4 – more dates to follow) \n11:00-11:30 Welcome; music; announcements\n11:30-12:30 Stand with signs along District Ave\n12:30-1:00 Optional short march down to Mall Rd. \nWhat happens at this ICE office? \nICE personnel depart from District Ave. in unmarked vans with tinted windows on missions to abduct immigrants across New England. Immigrants may also show up at the office for appointments. The facility on District Ave was never intended to be a detention center\, yet immigration lawyers and media interviews reveal that people are now being housed here in conditions that have been called “abysmal” and “unsanitary.” \nWhat to expect at Justice 4 All? \nWe are committed to nonviolence\, and we stand peacefully with signs outside the facility. We do not block the entrance\, we do not physically approach ICE agents as they walk to/from the parking lot\, and we do not block traffic on District Ave. \nSigns \nThis is a very targeted action outside the ICE facility\, so it’s not the venue for protesting other causes. Even though we care deeply about other issues\, while outside ICE we must remain focused on immigration.  \nParking and other tips \nFor parking\, please use the Macy’s overflow lot (75 Burlington Mall Road\, follow signs for Macy’s\, see map). For those with mobility challenges\, please keep in mind that the lots closest to ICE — the FAA lot beside ICE and the BAE Systems lot directly across the street from ICE — have both been blocked off. There are restaurants nearby (Clover\, Pressed Cafe\, Chipotle) to get food and use the bathroom. Before arriving\, please consider your own self-preservation (citizenship status) and self-care (sunscreen\, hydration\, etc.)

SUMMARY:Stop the War on Iran
DESCRIPTION:President Trump has launched a regime change war on Iran\, without approval from Congress\, while negotiations are going on. \nRally Monday\, March 2\, 6pm\, at Park Street\, Boston to denounce this criminal agression by our government and demand an immediate end to the conflict. \nTrump’s unprovoked\, illegal attack on Iran is an act of war that threatens to cause unthinkable death and destruction. But the people of this country reject another endless war and will take to the streets now and make our voices heard. \nIran has not attacked the United States. The government has been engaged in diplomatic negotiations up to the very last moment\, and has again and again insisted that it has no intention of developing a nuclear weapons program (which Trump claims to have “obliterated” last year anyway). Trump promised to bring peace to the world while he was running for office\, but he has done nothing but left a trail of devastation the world over. Rather than making executives at oil companies and weapons manufacturers richer\, our tax dollars should be used to meet people’s needs. \nBoston Rally Sponsors: National Iranian American Council\, Jewish Voice for Peace Boston\, Party for Socialism and Liberation\, Palestinian Youth Movement\, MAPA\, Our Revolution Massachusetts\, About Face\, Boston Democratic Socialists of America\, Veterans for Peace\, Jamaica Plain Progressives\, Military Families Speak Out\, ANSWER Coalition\, Mass 50501

SUMMARY:While Iran Boils\, Trump’s “Peace Plan” Threatens Palestinian Existence
DESCRIPTION:US imperial intervention has denied Iranians and Palestinians self-determination for 75 years. \nCoupled with an examination of the U.S./Israel/Iran crisis\, Jeremy Scahill and Rami Khouri reveal how the president’s “board of peace” promises a new\, dangerous and unaccountable stage of U.S./European/Israeli policy in the Middle East.  \nAt this moment when Palestinian national existence hangs in the balance\, there could be no better opportunity to understand the significance of stunning events now taking place in Gaza and the West Bank than hearing from these two expert journalists. Media coverage of the Palestinian crisis has dramatically shrunk since Trump announced his “Peace Plan” for Gaza\, but every day Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza are killed\, driven off their land\, or die in large numbers when denied sufficient food\, medical care and supplies needed to survive malnutrition and the elements. They will explain not just what is happening in Palestine but will examine the frightening realities of Israeli and U.S. policy that lay behind this next phase of the genocide. \nOf special interest\, they will examine President Trump’s “peace agreement” and the Board of Peace\, headed by Trump himself\, that his plan establishes. If the present is harsh\, the future laid out in this peace agreement is truly ominous. Scahill and Khouri will examine in detail not just how this bizarre Trump agreement came about but the threat it poses to the very possibility of a Palestinian state. But you will also learn of the complex battle the Palestinian resistance is playing to keep Palestinian national rights alive. Jeremy Scahill has conducted extensive interviews for Drop Site News with Hamas officials and we will all benefit from his unique insights on how the Palestinian resistance views the present situation\, what parts of the Trump plan they have agreed to and which they have not\, and their strategies for addressing the threats Palestinians face in the present moment. \nWith the new understanding gained about the U.S./Israeli/Iran crisis\, Palestinian realities\,  and Israeli and U.S. policies \, viewers will become more confident in their understanding of what needs to be done in order to effectively step up the fight to prevent/stop war with Iran and their mobilization against genocide and in support of Palestinian human and national rights.   \nJeremy Scahill\, an award-winning journalist and expert on warfare\, is co-founder of the investigative news organization Drop Site News. His investigative prowess has led to multiple recognitions\, including the George Polk Award and the Izzy Award for Independent Media. Scahill is widely respected for his writing\, particularly in areas related to war\, security\, and U.S. foreign policy. His extensive reporting from conflict zones such as Afghanistan\, Iraq\, Somalia\, and Yemen has provided him with a wealth of real-world insight. These experiences strengthen his standing as one of the most knowledgeable speakers on war\, security\, and journalism in the country.  \nRami George Khouri is a Palestinian-American journalist and editor. He was executive editor of the Beirut Daily Star newspaper from 2003 to 2005\, and before that had been editor-in-chief of the Jordan Times for seven years\, when he also wrote for many years from Amman\, Jordan\, for leading international publications\, including the Financial Times\, the Boston Globe\, and the Washington Post. Rami was the founding director of the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) from 2006 to 2014. He has served on the advisory boards of the International Committee of the Red Cross\, Harvard Divinity School\, and Northwestern University in Qatar. His 50 years of journalism in the Arab region include writing books and an internationally syndicated column. He continues to author books and write analyses and op-eds for the international media.  \n \n

SUMMARY:This War Must End\, and It Must End Now
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Tuesday\, February 24\, to mourn the 4th anniversary of the Ukraine war.\nBoston – Park Street Station\, 12 noon to 1:15 pm \nPittsfield – Rep Richard Neal’s office\, 78 Center St\, 12 noon \nNorthampton – Rep Jim McGovern’s office\, 94 Pleasant St\, noon \nSpringfield – Rep Richard Neal’s office\, 300 State St\, 1pm \nWorcester – Memorial Auditorium\, 2 Highland St\, 3pm\n \nThis month also commemorates the expiration of the New Start Treaty\, as President Trump refused to negotiate with Russia to extend this last remaining nuclear weapons control treaty. We are about to begin a nuclear arms race\, which will consume vast resources that both countries need to benefit their own people. \nWe have never been closer to nuclear war since the Cuban Missile Crisis over 60 years ago. In Ukraine\, we are dancing on the edge of nuclear war with the world’s largest nuclear power. Whatever our perspective on Russia’s invasion\, it is time to acknowledge that the U.S. and NATO strategy of “fighting Russia to the last Ukrainian” has been a catastrophe and total failure. In fact\, the very existence of an independent Ukraine is now in doubt. Further escalations only make that outcome more likely. \nThe U.S. and Europe have poured hundreds of billions of dollars into the war\, despite the acute need for those funds back home. Trump and Biden have provided Ukraine with the most sophisticated weapons and with intelligence support to fire missiles into Russia. Under Obama our CIA established 12 bases inside Ukraine to build up Ukraine’s capacity for covert operations\nand make Russia feel pain. But the war effort has failed\, and more weapons and money can’t change that reality. \nThe result is that Ukraine is suffering a demographic nightmare as entire generations of its men are being killed and disabled. Its animals are dying. Its rich soil is being poisoned. Millions of its people have left for Western Europe or for Russia. And its young men avoid the draft in droves. Its neo nazis hold an influence over the country far beyond their numbers as statues of the Nazi collaborator Stefan Bandera spring up in public places. All because peace agreements that would have kept the country together were rejected by Presidents Obama and Biden in their pursuit of weakening Russia. \nThe fact is that Russia was never going to allow the U.S. to establish a military bulwark right on its huge border with Ukraine any more than the U.S. would allow a Russian military base in Mexico. The war is a fool’s errand leading to this never-ending catastrophe. \nLet’s make sure we don’t have to commemorate a 5th anniversary of this war. Join us on February 24th in Boston\, Pittsfield\, Northampton\, Springfield\, or Worcester to oppose further escalation by all sides.

SUMMARY:Social Strikes: How Can We Use the Power of the People to End MAGA Tyranny?
DESCRIPTION:Donald Trump and his accomplices are conducting a creeping coup\, which is seizing all the powers of the government and concentrating them in the personal will of the President. The consequence is armed attack abroad and armed assault against American cities. Popular opposition is growing and a powerful movement-based opposition is resisting. But what about a worst-case scenario where neither electoral nor non-electoral opposition forestalls a MAGA tyranny? \nExperience from Poland to the Philippines to South Korea to Puerto Rico has shown that “social strikes” — including mass strikes\, general strikes\, and nonviolent popular uprisings — can overcome tyrannical dictatorships. The Minnesota “Day of Peace and Freedom”\, has shown the power of a social strike right here in the US. \nJoin us on February 16 for a webinar on the potential of social strikes to combat Trump’s authoritarian juggernaut. Learn about the history of social strike resistance to tyranny around the world; the lessons of the Minneapolis “Day of Truth and Freedom”; the role of organized labor; and how to use social strikes to establish government of the people\, by the people\, and for the people. \nSPEAKERS: \n \nRegister to attend:\n \n  \n

SUMMARY:Stop Trump’s Oil Blockade of Cuba
DESCRIPTION:Rally on Saturday\, February 14\nOutside Park Street Station\, Boston\n12 Noon to 1:15pm\nThis rally takes place during the worst crisis Cuba has ever faced as Trump is making sure no oil can reach Cuba. On January 29 he signed an executive order declaring a national emergency because of the alleged imminent threat that Cuba poses to our national security!! (The president seems to get a kick out of making up the most outrageous stories possible). In response to this “threat” he is placing significant tariffs on all goods from any country who dares to sell Cuba oil. \nOnce implemented this oil blockade means Cuba would be out of fuel by the end of this month. We will also raise our voices against even more draconian attacks on Cuba that could be coming soon. \nNow that Venezuelan oil is no longer available to Cuba\, we must support the efforts of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum to find a way to sell some of its oil to the island nation. Cuba. As she says\, “The problem we have now is that the United States said it will impose tariffs on any country that sells to Cuba” \nGiven the energy shortages that already exist in Cuba and the hardship primarily caused by 6 decades of embargo\, such an oil blockade guarantees starvation and widespread loss of life in Cuba. Electricity\, hospitals\, agricultural machinery and transportation will no longer be able to function. The president’s strategy is clear: to provoke a level of misery so profound that it leads to civil unrest and the toppling of the Cuban Government. \nBut this blockade of Cuban oil does not take place in a vacuum. By now it is clear that president Trump will do whatever he wants to get his way. He will destroy people\, universities\, cultural institutions and countries to further his ambitions for power and personal wealth. He wages war abroad and war against our rights at home with the same playbook of division\, extortion\, deprivation\, and fear. The people of Minneapolis and the people of Cuba may have more in common than they know – united as they are by a common enemy and a common vision of human solidarity. \nCuba may be Trump’s enemy. But it is not ours. Join us at noon on Valentines Day outside Park Street Station in downtown Boston to let the world know this basic reality. \nSponsored by the statewide “No War on Venezuela Network” and Massachusetts Peace Action \nFor Information call 617-354-2169

SUMMARY:4th Anniversary of Ukraine War: End it Now\, or It Could End Up in a Nuclear War!
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Ivana Nikolic´ Hughes will discuss the urgent need for a negotiated end to the Ukraine War\, even with significant concessions to the Russians given the increasingly dire military situation facing the Ukrainians.  This would prevent the US or NATO from escalating with new long-range missiles\, troops\, or attacks on Russian shipping and other targets– such as the alleged Ukrainian 90-drone ‘decapitation’ attack in late December on one of Russian President Putin’s homes– to try to avoid a total Ukrainian defeat.   Such escalation could trigger WWIII\, and a catastrophic nuclear war. \nShe will also discuss the increasing danger of nuclear war between the US and Russia because both the Biden and Trump administrations failed to negotiate with Russia to renew the START treaty (Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty).  It has been the most effective treaty over the past forty years to limit nuclear weapons.  It expires on Feb. 6th\, and she will discuss the importance of a groundswell of public support for Trump to agree to Putin’s offer to extend the treaty while beginning new negotiations to renew and even expand it. \nDr. Ivana Nikolic´ Hughes is President of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation and a Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Chemistry at Columbia University. She holds a BS with Honors from Caltech\, and a PhD from Stanford University. She has been a faculty member at Columbia University since 2008 and currently serves as a member of the Scientific Advisory Group to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW). Her writing has appeared in The Nation\, Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists\, The Hill\, Scientific American\, Truthout\, Common Dreams\, Transcend Media Service\, The Diplomat\, and elsewhere. \nCosponsored by Ukraine: A Time for Peace Campaign and the Nuclear Disarmament Working Group of MAPA.
