SUMMARY:Justice 4 All Thursdays
DESCRIPTION:Via Turn Purple 2 Blue:\n\nGreater Assabet Indivisible Network (GAIN) invites you to stand in solidarity with immigrants and resistance to ICE and their cruel and lawless detention of our neighbors Thursdays from 11am-1pm. Regardless of any other political views\, you are welcome to join us and demand Justice 4 All so long as you do so non-violently. \nOur friends at Bearing Witness have been hosting gatherings at this location for many weeks. We are an unaffiliated group\, but very much aligned with their values and mission. Our goal is to add to the total number of hours that citizens stand in non-violent opposition to the deplorable detainment conditions at this location. If you have been to Bearing Witness on Wednesdays\, we would love to have you at Justice 4 All Thursdays. \nSchedule (Starting Thursday\, September 4 – more dates to follow) \n11:00-11:30 Welcome; music; announcements\n11:30-12:30 Stand with signs along District Ave\n12:30-1:00 Optional short march down to Mall Rd. \nWhat happens at this ICE office? \nICE personnel depart from District Ave. in unmarked vans with tinted windows on missions to abduct immigrants across New England. Immigrants may also show up at the office for appointments. The facility on District Ave was never intended to be a detention center\, yet immigration lawyers and media interviews reveal that people are now being housed here in conditions that have been called “abysmal” and “unsanitary.” \nWhat to expect at Justice 4 All? \nWe are committed to nonviolence\, and we stand peacefully with signs outside the facility. We do not block the entrance\, we do not physically approach ICE agents as they walk to/from the parking lot\, and we do not block traffic on District Ave. \nSigns \nThis is a very targeted action outside the ICE facility\, so it’s not the venue for protesting other causes. Even though we care deeply about other issues\, while outside ICE we must remain focused on immigration.  \nParking and other tips \nFor parking\, please use the Macy’s overflow lot (75 Burlington Mall Road\, follow signs for Macy’s\, see map). For those with mobility challenges\, please keep in mind that the lots closest to ICE — the FAA lot beside ICE and the BAE Systems lot directly across the street from ICE — have both been blocked off. There are restaurants nearby (Clover\, Pressed Cafe\, Chipotle) to get food and use the bathroom. Before arriving\, please consider your own self-preservation (citizenship status) and self-care (sunscreen\, hydration\, etc.)

SUMMARY:Turning On Us: The War Machine Comes Home (a WIRN webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Join us Wednesday\, November 12 from 8:00 PM – 9:30 PM ET for a War Industry Resisters Network webinar. \nThe violence that the US military has inflicted on the rest of the world has always been accompanied by police violence and repression at home\, especially aimed at BIPOC people. But now\, with persistent ICE attacks and National Guard occupations of our cities\, it has become an overt and official wide-scale federal policy. The weapons and strategies that the US has used in its imperial wars are now being turned on its own population in a blatant and unconstitutional move towards authoritarian rule. The wars have come home. This webinar will address this undemocratic use of militarized force\, discuss its legality\, and point to who is profiting from it. It will also describe the resistance that has risen up in cities such as Portland\, Chicago\, and DC. \nRegister Below

SUMMARY:Say No to National Guard Troops in our Streets
DESCRIPTION:SAY NO TO NATIONAL GUARD TROOPS IN OUR STREETS \nStand with Veterans as we march\, rally\, and refuse to allow growing fascism to be normalized. Together we say NO this Veterans Day – no to ICE\, no to occupation\, no to fascism\, and no to cuts stripping away life saving services our communities need. \n \nSponsors: Veterans for Peace/ Smedley Butler Brigade\, About Face\, Mayday Strong\, Common Defense\nhttps://www.vetssayno.org/ \nMay Day is proud to stand alongside About Face in this effort – together we will ensure that this country works for all of us\, not the few. \nPlease note: A core principle behind all our events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values. Weapons of any kind\, including those legally permitted\, should not be brought to events \n\nAbout Face is a movement of post 9/11 service members and veterans who understand that the same institutions and policies that wage wars overseas also have targeted communities of color\, indigenous people\, and poor people inside of the United States. About Face takes action in solidarity with all people impacted by wars abroad and at home to realize a vision of a world free of militarism. \nMay Day Strong is a multi-racial working class movement dedicated to taking our country back from the billionaires and stopping the current authoritarian takeover. We are the many\, they are the few. Together we will win.

SUMMARY:Eyes of the Rainbow: Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Monday\, Nov. 3\, 5:45 pm\, at the Easthampton Library Annex\, 52 Main Street for the 2nd installment in our monthly film & discussion series\, Cuba in the Valley. This month’s film is Eyes of the Rainbow\, a documentary by noted Cuban filmmaker Gloria Rolando about the life of Assata Shakur\, the Black Panther and Black Liberation Army leader\, who escaped prison\, proclaiming her innocence\, and then spent the rest of her life in Cuba. She died in September 2025. The film takes place in 1997\, when she had been in exile in Cuba for 15 years. Director Rolando says:  “In the struggle of the African American people\, many women’s voices in the past and the present have always called for social justice\, women who throughout the years have shown integrity and firmness in their principles.” This is the voice\, she says\, of Assata Shakur.  Who was Assata?  How did she come to be in Cuba?  Why did she choose Cuba?  And why did the United States place her as a focal point in their demands for normalizing relations with Cuba and punish Cuba for not surrendering her? How is it that Assata became such a legend\, in the US and in Cuba? In Eyes of the Rainbow\, the film interweaves Assata’s story with her spiritual connection to the Yoruba Orisha Oya\, an Afro-Cuban goddess\, underlining the importance of culture and religion as well as politics in the African Diaspora and liberation struggle. The film is primarily in English\, subtitled when in Spanish\, and still incredibly relevant to the U.S. and Cuba of today.  \nAgustin Lao-Montes\, professor in the W.E.B. DuBois African American Studies Department at UMass Amherst and noted activist and scholar in the Afrodescendent movements of the U.S.\, Cuba and the Caribbean will lead a post film discussion bringing these connections together.

SUMMARY:Annual Dinner 2025: Protecting Our Neighbors **SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:Join us on November 1st to celebrate a year of steadfast organizing and resistance! With authoritarianism on the rise\, the U.S. terrorizing civilians at home and across the globe\, and the continuation of the genocide in Gaza\, “protecting our neighbors” has never been more important. As we know\, the terror and militarization abroad inflicted by the U.S. will always come home\, and this year we honor those on the front lines fighting Trump’s agenda and protecting the most vulnerable – from Massachusetts to Gaza. \nThis year’s Peacebuilder Award recipients include the union responsible for the release of Rümeysa Öztürk – SEIU 509 and the founders of “Bearing Witness\,” Jared D. Berezin and Laurie Lynn Berezin\, who organize hundreds of Masssachusetts residents outside ICE headquarters in Burlington in ongoing weekly stand-outs. We also will also honor Susan McLucas and Paula Iasella for their longstanding work to free Julian Assange\, a man who worked to reveal the breath of U.S. war crimes. \nWe will present our 2025 Peace Leadership Award to Dr. Karameh Kuemmerle\, a Palestinan-American pediatric neurologist and co-founder of Doctors Against Genocide – an organization dedicated to mobilizing the medical community to respond to and prevent genocide and severe human rights abuses worldwide. She is affiliated with Harvard Medical School with research focusing on improving healthcare outcomes for refugee communities and addressing the impact of social determinents like racism. \nJoin us for and evening filled with great Caribbean food from Eunice’s Cuisine and a live performance of Palestinian and Arabic music by local band\, the Hawa Collective to celebrate another year of resistance!

SUMMARY:Standout: Hold Israel Accountable
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, Nov 1\, noon \nPark Street Station\, Boston \ndate changed due to predicted weather \n \nHundreds of Palestinians have been killed by Israel since the ceasefire agreement was signed. \nThe U.S. must demand that Israel obey the ceasefire immediately \nSeth Moulton\, who is running for Senate\, and our whole congressional delegation must wake up and support the Stop the Bombs legislation and cut off of military and diplomatic support for Israel. \nThe Mass. State legislature must divest the pension plan from the companies providing the weapons being used by Israel to violate the ceasefire. \nThe Famine continues in violation of the agreement. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians continue to starve in violation of the Agreement’s demand that the U.N. and other organizations be allowed to end the famine. \nThe U.S. government and public demand Israel’s compliance with the agreement to end the famine. \nWe must punish Israel’s continued starvation of Palestinians by suspending all aid to Israel and passing the Stop the Bombs legislation.   Members of Congress including Seth Moulton must support the UNRWA Funding Restoration Act. \nThis rally will raise awareness that Israel is continuing the mass murder and starvation of Palestinians in violation of the Agreement they claim to be observing\, and to cut into the assumption that Trump’s agreement has ended the Gaza war and to call for Israel’s isolation as punishment for these violations \nSponsored by Arise & Resist\, MAPA\, Northshore for Palestine\, CD8 for Palestine\, Alliance for Water Justice in Palestine\, and Palestine South Shore Alliance. SUMMARY:Anti-Semitism as a Smokescreen: Effects of Pseudo Anti-semitism on Women
DESCRIPTION:Under the guise of condemning anti-semitism\, the current U.S. presidential administration has weaponized and distorted the true meaning of antisemitic philosophy and actions. Countering anti-semitism has become a bullying tactic on U.S. college campuses and is being used as a means to discredit or demonize supporters of Palestinian rights. \nThis brand of anti-semitism has become a smokescreen for punishing institutions and activists and can be seen as “pseudo anti-semitism”\, a false interpretation and deliberate twisting of the concept used to confuse and further polarize the U.S. electorate.\n \nSpeakers will address how “pseudo anti-semitism” affects women in the U.S. and in Palestine\, contributing to the dangerous rhetoric of the ongoing war taking place there. \nAlice Rothchild\, MD is a retired obstetrician-gynecologist who worked in the health care reform and women’s movements for many years. She directed a documentary film Voices Across the Divide\, an oral history project sharing the stories of Palestinians\, which premiered at the Boston Palestine Film Festival\, 2013. \nSince 1997\, she has focused much of her energy on understanding the Israeli/Palestinian conflict from a progressive perspective. Her books on this topic include Condition Critical: Life and Death in Israel/Palestine\, Extraordinary Rendition: (American) Writers on Palestine\, On the Brink: Israel and Palestine on the Eve of the 2014 Gaza Invasion\, Shifting Sands: Jewish Women Confront the Israeli Occupation\, and Broken Promises\, Broken Dreams: Stories of Jewish and Palestinian Trauma and Resilience. \nLubna Alzaroo\, PhD grew up in Hebron\, Palestine before moving to the U.S. for graduate school on a Fulbright Scholarship. Her upbringing in Palestine shaped her interest in Environmental Justice issues. She has master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Washington with a focus on the Environmental Humanities. Her research is on the representation of settler-colonial infrastructure\, and the environment in both U.S and Palestinian Literature. She is a lecturer in the Program on the Environment and the Comparative History of Ideas department at The University of Washington and also teaches Environmental Science at South Seattle College. Her courses focus on environmental justice and Settler Colonial Infrastructures. \nSponsored by the Women’s Health Subteam of Fund Healthcare Not Warfare\, MAPA Education Fund.  Register to attend.

SUMMARY:Is Ukraine Headed for Peace or Nuclear War?
DESCRIPTION:The proxy war being waged in Ukraine carries the ever-present danger of escalating into a nuclear conflict. Russia is winning the war on the battlefield. Ukraine’s army is decimated\, its economy gutted\, and its environment devastated. Hundreds of thousands have been killed or wounded. Either the war will end at the negotiating table\, with some kind of peace agreement\, or the West will decide to escalate along a path of ever greater and more direct confrontation with Russia. What are the decisions – past\, present\, and future – that could lead us to World War III? \nOn the one hand\, the West’s policies – of encouraging the expansion of NATO\, withdrawing from crucial nuclear treaties\, stationing nuclear-capable missiles in Romania and Poland\, assisting Ukraine’s drone attacks on Russia’s early-warning radar systems and nuclear-capable bombers\, allowing the use of NATO countries’ long-range missiles to strike deep within Russia – are headed for  disaster. On the other hand\, Russia has adopted a new doctrine that declares it could carry out nuclear attacks in response to any attack on its territory by a non-nuclear state backed by a nuclear armed power. … Where will it end? \nVeteran defense policy analyst Richard Krushnic will examine multiple scenarios in which this war could end\, either in peace or in Armageddon. \nRichard Kruschnic writes about military corporate influence over U.S. foreign policy\, the Ukraine War and Raytheon Technologies. He continues to be involved in the community development financing in Cambridge\, MA\, and Nicaragua.  In addition to the Ukraine Committee\, he works with MAPA’s Nuclear Disarmament and Latin America and Caribbean working groups\, and Mass Public Banking. \nRegister for this event: \n \nSponsored by Ukraine: A Time for Peace\, a priority campaign of Massachusetts Peace Action.

Though the national organizations of teachers and educators are mobilized to resist\, parents lack statewide or national organizations\, and rarely pay attention to Congressional funding programs. The Books not Bombs campaign is an effort to leverage the support of the NEA\, AFT and AAUP\, to reach out to advocacy groups – for example Progressive Dems of America\, Our Revolution and Mothers Out Front chapters\, and Peace Action affiliates – whose members include parents\, grandparents students\, and teachers. This involves recognizing and rejecting the excessive allocation of tax dollars to military programs rather than civilian needs. \nThis late afternoon Forum complements No Kings Day mobilizations. \nPanelists: \nWelcome: Prof. Jonathan King – (AAUP & Mass Peace Action Education Fund) \nCongressional and State Budgets:  \n\nSchool Budget Needs – Deb McCarthy (Vice President\, Massachusetts Teachers Association)\nCuts in the Dept. of Ed. SUMMARY:No Kings\, No Warmongering - 10/18
DESCRIPTION:https://www.mobilize.us/nokings/event/840244/ \nSaturday\, October 1812-3 pm EDT \n \nBoston Common – near Parkman Bandstand \nWear Yellow \nWhile millions lose access to healthcare and schools crumble\, Trump sends billions of US tax dollars to  enable Israel’s genocide and fund ICE to abduct our neighbors. It doesn’t have to be this way. Born in the streets\, carried by millions in chants and on posters\, it echoes from city blocks to rural town squares\, uniting people across this country to fight dictatorship together. \nThe president thinks his rule is absolute. But in America\, we don’t have kings\, and we won’t back down against chaos\, corruption\, and cruelty. Grow our movement and join us. \nA core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind\, including those legally permitted\, should not be brought to events. \nIn the Boston area?  Click below to sign up for the peace/ Palestine contingent.  Our info table will be near the Parkman Bandstand\, at position #18 as shown in the map below. \nHere is the flyer we will be distributing. \n \nNot in the Boston area?   There will be hundreds of No Kings protests nationwide on Oct. 18.    Find a protest near you at https://www.mobilize.us/nokings/ and print out your own copies of the flyer to distribute! \n \nBoston Program – Main Stage\nEmcee\nRahsaan Hall\, President and CEO of the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts \nSpeakers\nBoston Mayor Michelle Wu \nCarol Rose\, Executive Director of ACLU of Massachusetts \nReverend Mariama White-Hammond \nPerformers\nChadwick Stokes (of Dispatch) \nThe Sheila Divine \nAbbie Barrett \nJonathan Gramling and Toussaint \nGood Trouble Brass Band \nBVocal \nRosie and the Resisters \nSecond Stage Theater\nAmerican Gulag \nA short tragic performance demonstrating ICE’s dehumanizing and cruel intake process\, and depicting an inmate’s daily life in a modern concentration camp. \nSNOW \nA satirical play that mocks the administration’s agents who are currently terrorizing our communities.
