SUMMARY:Democrats Must Stop Gaza Genocide
DESCRIPTION:The Democratic State Convention will be held in Springfield on Saturday\, Sept 13.  The party leadership has refused to address the Gaza starvation and genocide at the convention and has watered down the party platform to the point where it is almost meaningless. \nMAPA members and allied Palestine activists will pass flyers to convention delegates calling on Congress to support the Block the Bombs Act\, which would cut off offensive weapons shipments to Israel. \nJoin us as we reach out to the thousands of delegates.  We need volunteers to pass out flyers starting at 8am\, with the peak hours being from 9:30am – 11:00 am.   Additional people will hold up banners\, signs and Palestine flags.  For those who are delegates\, we’ll also have a literature table inside. Please sign up to help.  Bring banners\, signs and flags. \nEnter on the corner of Main Street and Bruce Landon Way.  The Convention Center carpark is at 41 Harrison Ave\, $20 a day. \nSee the flyer we’ll be handing out to delegates.    Sign up to be there and help out.

SUMMARY:Justice 4 All Thursdays
DESCRIPTION:Via Turn Purple 2 Blue:\n\nGreater Assabet Indivisible Network (GAIN) invites you to stand in solidarity with immigrants and resistance to ICE and their cruel and lawless detention of our neighbors Thursdays from 11am-1pm. Regardless of any other political views\, you are welcome to join us and demand Justice 4 All so long as you do so non-violently. \nOur friends at Bearing Witness have been hosting gatherings at this location for many weeks. We are an unaffiliated group\, but very much aligned with their values and mission. Our goal is to add to the total number of hours that citizens stand in non-violent opposition to the deplorable detainment conditions at this location. If you have been to Bearing Witness on Wednesdays\, we would love to have you at Justice 4 All Thursdays. \nSchedule (Starting Thursday\, September 4 – more dates to follow) \n11:00-11:30 Welcome; music; announcements\n11:30-12:30 Stand with signs along District Ave\n12:30-1:00 Optional short march down to Mall Rd. \nWhat happens at this ICE office? \nICE personnel depart from District Ave. in unmarked vans with tinted windows on missions to abduct immigrants across New England. Immigrants may also show up at the office for appointments. The facility on District Ave was never intended to be a detention center\, yet immigration lawyers and media interviews reveal that people are now being housed here in conditions that have been called “abysmal” and “unsanitary.” \nWhat to expect at Justice 4 All? \nWe are committed to nonviolence\, and we stand peacefully with signs outside the facility. We do not block the entrance\, we do not physically approach ICE agents as they walk to/from the parking lot\, and we do not block traffic on District Ave. \nSigns \nThis is a very targeted action outside the ICE facility\, so it’s not the venue for protesting other causes. Even though we care deeply about other issues\, while outside ICE we must remain focused on immigration.  \nParking and other tips \nFor parking\, please use the Macy’s overflow lot (75 Burlington Mall Road\, follow signs for Macy’s\, see map). For those with mobility challenges\, please keep in mind that the lots closest to ICE — the FAA lot beside ICE and the BAE Systems lot directly across the street from ICE — have both been blocked off. There are restaurants nearby (Clover\, Pressed Cafe\, Chipotle) to get food and use the bathroom. Before arriving\, please consider your own self-preservation (citizenship status) and self-care (sunscreen\, hydration\, etc.)

SUMMARY:The US and El Salvador: Parallels on Political Persecution and Mass Incarceration
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, September 8th\, 7pm EST\n \nPresidents Donald Trump and Nayib Bukele are running parallel authoritarian projects that use national security to justify human rights abuses via mass incarceration. Platforms like MAGA and Bukele’s Nuevas Ideas party cloak their abuses of power as concern for public safety\, scapegoating immigrants or weaponizing fears of gang violence to further their agendas. The truth is\, facilities like Alligator Alcatraz in Florida and CECOT in El Salvador don’t exist to protect the public — they seek to terrorize marginalized communities and set a precedent for indefinite detention with no hope of due process. \nJoin Lourdes Palacios\, a popular movement leader and former senior government official in El Salvador\, in discussing her work to free political prisoners and support their families. \nHear from Mneesha Gellman\, associate professor and director of the Emerson Prison Initiative\, who recently visited El Salvador and spent time interviewing families of prisoners at CECOT and other Salvadorian facilities. \nWe will also learn from our cosponsor CISPES (The Committee in Solidarity with the People of El Salvador) who will share details about their upcoming week of action\, beginning September 15th\, providing us with specific ways that the audience can get involved! \nWe won’t stand by as civilians permanently disappear into state-sanctioned prison camps. Learn about the connections between U.S. and Salvadoran carceral regimes\, and how you can take action. Live interpretation will be provided in both English and Spanish. SUMMARY:People's Hunger Strike
DESCRIPTION:Healthcare workers\, healthcare organizations and community groups based in Boston are launching a Hunger Strike in Boston beginning on Thursday\, September 4th. Palestinians are being starved to death and are calling for an international hunger strike in solidarity. We must act NOW and escalate the political pressure to put an end to the genocide that is taking place before our very eyes. \nWe Demand \n\nSenators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey to introduce a Senate version of the Block the Bombs Act (H.R. 3565) to block the Trump administration from delivering major US weapons to Israel – bombs\, tank rounds\, and artillery shells – which it has used in its mass killing of Palestinians in Gaza.\nRepresentative Katherine Clark\, Democratic Party Whip\, to co-sponsor the Block the Bombs Act\n\nSuccessive cohorts of strikers will engage in 7-day fasts\, to create a continuous collective hunger strike. The strikers will be offered practical support and medical monitoring. There will be press conferences\, art activities\, and poetry readings\, all in order to highlight our action and the atrocities that are happening every day in Gaza. \nJoin us for our launch outside the JFK Federal Building starting September 4th at 11am. Following the launch on the 4th\, there will be daily standouts Monday through Friday from 3-5pm. \nClick below to find more information on how to join and support the strike. \n \nRefer to this website for up to date information on the strike\, and click here to see schedule details as well as weekend events.

SUMMARY:Freedom of Expression At Risk!
DESCRIPTION:It’s no secret that censorship\, arrests\, and firings have punished almost every group or individual showing solidarity\, or sometimes merely sympathy\, for Palestinians being slaughtered and displaced by Israel in what experts unanimously regard as genocide. Two of our panelists were fired or disciplined for this solidarity. \nJoin us on August 19th at 7pm at the First Unitarian Church at 71 8th Street\, New Bedford\, MA 02740 for an important discussion on how the repression of Palestine supporters has hit union workers and how unions can fight back to protect their members and defend civil and human rights.  Peggy Wang and Camilo Viveiros will speak about the growing threats to our freedom of expression. Wang will address the attacks on pro-Palestine voices which have led to people being on administrative leave as well as people losing their jobs. Viveiros will discuss the current climate unions face as their right to expression is being threatened. \nThere is no such thing as neutrality when it comes to internationalism. The Labor movement plays an important role in international issues\, such as opposing the genocide in Gaza\, and unions are obliged to recognize the class conflict among all nationalities while showing solidarity with working class people everywhere. Panelists will discuss some of the initiatives around building and extending that solidarity. \nRead Anna Feder’s powerful article published on the first anniversary of her firing from Emerson College \nJoin us on August 19th at 7pm at the First Unitarian Church at 71 8th Street\, New Bedford\, MA 02740. \nRSVP requested but not required

SUMMARY:Keep Space for Peace not War (a WIRN webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Roy Jones is a former musician who was part of the Post Punk scene in London in the late 70’s and early 80s with his band Red Beat. During this time he was active in the movement to stop Cruise Missiles with nuclear warheads being deployed in Western Europe. He later toured the States in 1987 as a keyboard player with the Howard Jones band. In the early 90s he was a founder member and fund raiser for the peace group PARC – Pembrokeshire Against the Radar Campaign who successfully fought US military plans to build a massive Over the Horizon Radar installation in a similar location to Deep Space Advanced Radar Capability (DARC)\, a proposal originating from President Trump’s US Space Force now in planning. A long standing Buddhist and member of the lay Buddhist group SGI\, Roy has continued to use his music to fight against nuclear weapons as a supporter of the International Campaign Against Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) and the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND). \nRegister for this event: \n \nAs a kind of trailer for this upcoming webinar\, check out this great 2-minute video done by the PARC against DARC campaign to stop a military radar in a Welsh National Park. \nKeep the Space above us for peace and science not war and profit! \nMusician Roy Jones outside of Welsh Parliament. We will follow the viewing with a discussion\, to share our reactions and ways to address the threat that nuclear weapons pose. \n \nAs the US and other countries build up their nuclear arsenals amidst global areas of conflict\, the unthinkable threat of nuclear war has become very real—and very frightening.  Through the powerful recollections of the survivors of the atomic bombs\, which leveled two Japanese cities in 1945\, the film ‘White Light Black Rain: The Destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki’ presents a deeply moving look at the painful legacy of using nuclear weapons in war.

SUMMARY:Letter Delivery to Katherine Clark
DESCRIPTION:Last week\, Congresswoman Katherine Clark tweeted that “I am horrified by the starvation in Gaza\,” yet she supports sending Israel the weapons it uses to deliberately starve Gaza. \nWe need to point out this contradiction and demand that Clark takes action to end our country’s complicity in Israel’s genocide. \nRight now there is bill in Congress that would do exactly that\, the Block the Bombs Act (H.3565). This bill would prevent the federal government from sending Israel some of the most destruction weapons being used in its genocide. \nSign this letter to tell Clark that tweets are not enough\, she must take immediate action to end our complicity in the genocide in Gaza. We are demanding Clark meet with her constituents to discuss legislation to stop the genocide and hold Israel accountable. \nWe will be delivering this letter to Clark’s office Thursday\, August 7th at noon\, carrying pots and pans to symbolize the starvation unfolding in Gaza. Meet at the Malden Center T-stop. \n  \nSponsored by the Arise & Resist Coalition\, Massachusetts Peace Action\, National Iranian American Council – MA Chapter\, Doctors Against Genocide\, About Face Veterans\, Veterans for Peace\, If Not Now Boston\, Jewish Voice for Peace Boston\, Boston Democratic Socialists of America\, Boston Interfaith Ceasefire\, Green-Rainbow Party Boston\, Arlington for Palestine\, Lexington for Palestine\, and Medford for Palestine

SUMMARY:Merrimack Valley People for Peace Commemoration Vigil
DESCRIPTION:Via Merrimack Valley for Peace \n“On Wednesday\, August 6th\, the Merrimack Valley People for Peace will hold a vigil in front of the Old Town Hall in Andover Center from 6:30 to 7:30 PM.  The vigil commemorates the 80th anniversary of the first use of nuclear weapons in war and the destruction of Hiroshima\, Japan at the close of World War II.  The United States bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were the only deployments of atomic weapons in history.  It is estimated that more than 90\,000 people were killed in Hiroshima and more than 60\,000 people were killed in Nagasaki.  Testing and manufacture of nuclear weapons has continued to damage the environment since. Atomic weapons now are much stronger and numerous\, so a continuing danger to all life on earth.  More countries now have nuclear weapons and others are working to develop them. The vigil is free and open to the public.  Participants are encouraged to bring signs.” \n
