SUMMARY:Standout: Free Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya
DESCRIPTION:We will gather to demand URGENT ACTION to immediately release the prominent pediatrician Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya\, the prior director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza. He is at risk of imminent death after over 550 days of torture\, starvation and abuse in an Israeli prison with no charges. His oldest son was killed in the Gaza genocide and he kept serving his patients with steadfastness. On December 27\, 2024\, Dr. Abu Safiya was abducted by Israeli forces\, along with other healthcare workers\, after refusing to abandon the children and patients under his care during the assault on his hospital. Dr. Abu Safiya was detained because he refused to leave his patients as he provided the last ray of hope for them in the midst of genocide.  \nAt the recent meeting his lawyer reported that his face was unrecognizable from severe beating\, he was struggling to breath\, and on the verge of losing consciousness. Dr. Abu Safiya told his lawyer: “This is the last time you will see me. They brought me here to kill me. I do not see myself surviving. This is the end”. His lawyer reported that his life is in immediate danger and pleaded for urgent actions from all people with empathy and courage. \nOver 1700 healthcare workers have been killed in the Gaza genocide. About 10\,000 palestinians are deatined in Isreali prisons\, one third of them; 80 of them are health workers\, were detained  with no charges and  being subject to torture and abuse . This is an URGENT CALL to ALL to contact your legislators this week for the release of Dr. Abu Safiya and raise awareness about all Palestinians held in Israeli prisons. \nTake Action: \nhttps://doctorsagainstgenocide.org/actions/abu-safiya-letters \n \nThe reported critical condition of Dr. Abu Safiya underscores the urgent need for immediate intervention. Please speak up before it is too late. \nThe resilience of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya was captured in an iconic picture\, a pediatrician in a white coat walking through the rubble towards an Israeli tank.

SUMMARY:Palestine 36: Revolt\, Drama\, History
DESCRIPTION:Palestine 36 is an internationally acclaimed 2025 historical drama and epic written and directed by Annemarie Jacir. The film interweaves fictional narratives with archival footage and historical recreation to tell its story. \n1936. As villages across Mandatory Palestine rise against British colonial rule\, Yusuf drifts between his rural home and the restless energy of Jerusalem\, longing for a future beyond the growing unrest. But history is relentless. With rising numbers of Jewish immigrants escaping antisemitism in Europe\, and the Palestinian population uniting in the largest and longest uprising against Britain’s 30-year dominion\, all sides spiral towards inevitable collision in a decisive moment for the British Empire and the future of the entire region. \nThe farmer-led revolt against British colonialism in 1936 marked the beginning of the largest and longest uprising against Britain’s 30-year rule. Palestinians from all classes were mobilized\, and nationalistic sentiment spread in the Arabic press\, schools\, social and literary circles. The British\, taken aback by the extent and intensity of the revolt\, retaliated by placing Palestine under martial law\, deploying over twenty thousand troops to Palestine\, and still failed to control a population of less than one million people. Ships arrived loaded with tanks and machine guns. The Royal Air Force began strafing the countryside. Thousands of Palestinians were imprisoned\, beaten\, and the leadership exiled. The revolt lasted for three years and was arguably the largest and longest anticolonial uprising in the British Empire. \nPalestine’s Official Selection for the 98th Academy Awards. \nSponsored by MAPA\, Cambridge for Palestine\, and the Boston Palestine Film Festival. \nThe film will be screened in the Parish Hall of St. James Church. The Parish Hall is in the modern condo/ office building which is located next to the historic stone church.   If you have not been to the location before\, please print out these directions before you go!
