SUMMARY:Divesting from Israel's Genocide
DESCRIPTION:Register to attend. \n \nJoin us on April 1 to learn about: \n1. The specific weapons that Israel is employing to maintain its apartheid system and for its assault on Gaza\, the West Bank\, Lebanon and Syria. \n2. The military contractors who produce and provide these weapons to Israel – especially those here in Massachusetts. \n3. How divestment campaigns work and how they can function to push for an end to U.S. war aid to Israel. \n4. The Bill in the Massachusetts Legislature (H.D.3630) to divest the Mass. State Pension Plan from companies selling weapons to Israel and Mass. Peace Action’s divestment campaign focused on pressuring the Mass. State Pension Fund and Massachusetts Universities to divest their holding in companies that provide these weapons to Israel. \nNoam Perry is AFSC’s Economic Activism associate and one of the creators of Investigate\, AFSC’s project that aims to expose corporate involvement in oppressive state violence structures and to promote standards for corporate social responsibility and respect for human rights. Its research efforts focus on corporations involved in incarceration and immigrant detention\, the Israeli occupation\, and the border industries. These are AFSC program focus areas\, where there is an identified lack of available resources\, coupled with explicit requests for such resources from the movements we work with. The Investigate project reaches out to the responsible investment community\, to community activists\, and to interfaith partners with information and tools for corporate engagement\, corporate accountability\, and divestment initiatives\, to support the building of wide movements that can influence\, limit\, and monitor corporate abuse. \nRegister to attend.

SUMMARY:"The Encampments" Screening and Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Purchase tickets to attend. \n \nMAPA invites you to a screening of The Encampments\, a new film by Michael T. Workman\, followed by discussion. The first months of the second Trump administration have signaled a shift from derision and misrepresentation of the movement for justice in Palestine to active state suppression. The very Universities that at best barely tolerated and at worst violently dismantled student protest movements are now themselves being threatened with loss of grants\, funding\, tax-exempt status\, and other privileges\, for not being brutal enough in their response to peace activists. In addition to pursuing all possible legal avenues to dissuade vocal opposition to America’s active involvement in an ongoing genocide\, the administration is creating an atmosphere of fear by abducting individuals active in the movement off the streets of so-called “sanctuary cities” in broad daylight and renditioning them to other states in an effort to expel them from the country. These actions must not break our will\, but strengthen our resolve. It is in this spirit that we present this timely and vital film. \nAbout the Film: When a group of students at Columbia University in New York launch a movement protesting the war in Gaza\, they spark a nationwide uprising in solidarity with the people of Gaza. Encampments spring up at hundreds of campuses as students object to their own university’s investment in the US and Israeli arms industry. Featuring detained student activist Mahmoud Khalil\, The Encampments takes viewers inside America’s student uprising with incredible intimacy and urgency. Professors\, whistleblowers\, and student activists shed light on a moment that captivated the nation’s attention and continues to make headlines today. \nDiscussion after screening with student/s who participated in encampments. \nFeel free to bring snacks to share. \nDirections to the venue. \nPurchase tickets to attend. \n \nSponsored by MAPA\, cosponsored by the MA Justice for All Party\, Alliance for Water Justice in Palestine\, CD8 for Palestine\, Jewish Voice for Peace Boston\, Northshore for Palestine\, Palestine House of New England\, and Party for Socialism and Liberation.

SUMMARY:Stop Starving Gaza! Rally and Silent Procession
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a rally and silent procession on Tuesday\, June 3. We will meet outside Park Street Station at 5:30pm. \nRSVP to attend \n \nIsrael is starving 2.1 million people in Gaza. The small volume of aid that started to trickle in after an 11-week full blockade is a drop in the ocean. Israel is blocking thousands of trucks carrying food\, medicine\, and clean water from entering Gaza and continues to bomb bakeries\, farmland\, water facilities\, aid distribution centers\, and aid guards. Children and the elderly are dying. Israel’s goal is to prevent Palestinians from being able to return to their land. This is all being facilitated by our tax dollars. \nWe will gather at the Park Street Station to hear speakers testify on the humanitarian situation in Gaza and demand an end to our complicity. We will then continue with a silent procession to mourn those already lost to bombings and starvation\, and to protest the continued funding and enablement of this genocide by our government. Please wear black\, bring empty pots and pans\, and carry signs with consistent imagery and messaging focused on the effects of bombing and starvation on children. \nRSVP welcome but not required.

SUMMARY:Stop ICE Abductions and Block the Bombs
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a critical conversation with Congresswoman Delia Ramirez\, who introduced a historic bill – H.R.3565\, the Block the Bombs Act\, to prevent the Trump administration from sending weapons to Israel. This is the first bill in U.S. history to proactively block the president from sending Israel the types of weapons that it has used repeatedly to commit apparent war crimes and crimes against humanity against Palestinians in Gaza through the genocidal violence Israel has been inflicting since October 2023. \nWe’ll also be joined by Mahmoud Khalil\, a Columbia University graduate student and outspoken advocate for Palestine\, who is currently suing the Trump administration after being detained for over 100 days without charges. During his illegal detention\, he was separated from his wife and missed the delivery of his newborn son. To this day\, Mahmoud continues to fight against the threat of deportation. \nAs the U.S. continues to support Israel’s devastating genocide in Gaza\, communities across the U.S. are also facing intensified state violence. This webinar explores the deep connections between attacks on migrants in the U.S.\, the weaponization of ICE against people speaking up against the genocide\, and U.S. participation in Israel’s occupation and genocide on Palestinians. \nFrom Gaza to the United States\, we’ll examine how U.S. policy drives displacement and repression — and how grassroots resistance is pushing back. \nOther speakers include: \n• Pedro Rios\, Director of the American Friends Service Committee’s U.S./Mexico Border Program \n• Brad Parker\, Associate Director of Policy at the Center for Constitutional Rights \nFacilitation will be provided by Amira Hassan of IMEU Policy Project and Nusaiba Mubarak from AFSC. \nIf you are registering from outside the US please use the zip code 19102 \n  \nhttps://www.mobilize.us/afsc/event/812779/

SUMMARY:Letter Delivery to Katherine Clark
DESCRIPTION:Last week\, Congresswoman Katherine Clark tweeted that “I am horrified by the starvation in Gaza\,” yet she supports sending Israel the weapons it uses to deliberately starve Gaza. \nWe need to point out this contradiction and demand that Clark takes action to end our country’s complicity in Israel’s genocide. \nRight now there is bill in Congress that would do exactly that\, the Block the Bombs Act (H.3565). This bill would prevent the federal government from sending Israel some of the most destruction weapons being used in its genocide. \nSign this letter to tell Clark that tweets are not enough\, she must take immediate action to end our complicity in the genocide in Gaza. We are demanding Clark meet with her constituents to discuss legislation to stop the genocide and hold Israel accountable. \nWe will be delivering this letter to Clark’s office Thursday\, August 7th at noon\, carrying pots and pans to symbolize the starvation unfolding in Gaza. Meet at the Malden Center T-stop. \n  \nSponsored by the Arise & Resist Coalition\, Massachusetts Peace Action\, National Iranian American Council – MA Chapter\, Doctors Against Genocide\, About Face Veterans\, Veterans for Peace\, If Not Now Boston\, Jewish Voice for Peace Boston\, Boston Democratic Socialists of America\, Boston Interfaith Ceasefire\, Green-Rainbow Party Boston\, Arlington for Palestine\, Lexington for Palestine\, and Medford for Palestine

SUMMARY:Freedom of Expression At Risk!
DESCRIPTION:It’s no secret that censorship\, arrests\, and firings have punished almost every group or individual showing solidarity\, or sometimes merely sympathy\, for Palestinians being slaughtered and displaced by Israel in what experts unanimously regard as genocide. Two of our panelists were fired or disciplined for this solidarity. \nJoin us on August 19th at 7pm at the First Unitarian Church at 71 8th Street\, New Bedford\, MA 02740 for an important discussion on how the repression of Palestine supporters has hit union workers and how unions can fight back to protect their members and defend civil and human rights.  Peggy Wang and Camilo Viveiros will speak about the growing threats to our freedom of expression. Wang will address the attacks on pro-Palestine voices which have led to people being on administrative leave as well as people losing their jobs. Viveiros will discuss the current climate unions face as their right to expression is being threatened. \nThere is no such thing as neutrality when it comes to internationalism. The Labor movement plays an important role in international issues\, such as opposing the genocide in Gaza\, and unions are obliged to recognize the class conflict among all nationalities while showing solidarity with working class people everywhere. Panelists will discuss some of the initiatives around building and extending that solidarity. \nRead Anna Feder’s powerful article published on the first anniversary of her firing from Emerson College \nJoin us on August 19th at 7pm at the First Unitarian Church at 71 8th Street\, New Bedford\, MA 02740. \nRSVP requested but not required
