SUMMARY:US Aggression towards Venezuela and its Repercussions for Latin America (a WIRN webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Wedenesday January 14th @ 8PM\n \nThe recent U.S. military attacks and threats on Venezuela are just its latest acts of war on its southern neighbor. Since the rise of Hugo Chavez\, there have been coup attempts\, sanctions\, subversive support of the right-wing opposition\, theft of financial assets\, and the widespread dissemination of lies and propaganda portraying Venezuela as a threat to the U.S. But now\, the Trump regime appears more determined than ever to bring about regime change in this country that has the largest proven reserves of oil in the world. \nThe danger of this U.S aggression is not just to the people of Venezuela\, but to the rest of Latin America as well\, especially to the targeted nations of Cuba\, Nicaragua\, and Colombia. The U.S.\, under the banner of the Monroe Doctrine\, considers all of Latin America its sphere of influence and means to reinvigorate its dominance and exploitation of natural resources there. Capturing Venezuela would be a jewel in the imperial crown\, but it would also inevitably lead to more and more neo-colonization throughout the hemisphere. \n \nSpeakers: \nJohn Perry\, based in Nicaragua\, is with the Nicaragua Solidarity Coalition and writes for the Grayzone\, London Review of Books\, FAIR\, Covert Action and elsewhere \nRoger Harris taught political science at a Historically Black College in Mississippi in the late 1960s and was involved in the civil rights movement and community organizing in East Harlem\, New York City. He is a co-founder of the Venezuela Solidarity Network and was an election accompanier for the last presidential election in Venezuela. Roger is on the state central committee of the California Peace and Freedom Party and on the board of the human rights organization\, the Task Force on the Americas. He is on the program committee of the Marxist Forum and on the secretariat of the US Peace Council. He is active in the SanctionsKill campaign and the Nicaragua Solidarity Coalition. His political writings may be regularly found at Counterpunch\, LA Progressive\, Antiwar.com\, Venezuelanalysis\, and the Orinoco Tribune.

SUMMARY:Iran\, the US\, and Israel: How did we get here?
DESCRIPTION:The threat of war continues to loom over Iran. After more than two weeks of nationwide unrest that rocked the country\, the protest movement appears temporarily contained following an intense and coordinated security crackdown. Meanwhile\, outside actors openly brag about exploiting the situation for their ends\, and reports suggest a military strike by the Trump Administration might be imminent.  \nOn Friday\, Jan. 30th at 3 pm\, NIAC President\, Jamal Abdi\, will join journalist and analyst Negar Mortazavi and award-winning foreign affairs correspondent and author of All the Shah’s Men\, Stephen Kinzer\, in conversation. The panel will unpack the current situation inside Iran and the geopolitical landscape\, including U.S. and Israeli calculations following the 12-day war last June that killed hundreds of Iranian civilians\, and where we go from here.  \nNegar Mortazavi is an award-winning journalist and commentator\, editor and host of the Iran Podcast\, Senior Fellow at the Center for International Policy (CIP)\, and Nonresident Scholar at the Middle East Policy Council in Washington DC. She has been covering Iranian and Middle Eastern affairs as well as US foreign policy towards the Middle East for over a decade. She is a regular commentator for US and global media including CNN\, NBC\, NPR\, BBC\, France24\, Aljazeera\, among others. She has written for Foreign Policy magazine\, Politico\, The Intercept\, and The Independent. She holds a Master’s degree from Brandeis University and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts Boston.  \nJamal Abdi is the President of the National Iranian American Council and the executive director of NIAC Action. He has served in this role since 2018. Prior to joining NIAC as Policy Director in 2009\, he was a Policy Advisor on foreign policy\, national security\, and immigration issues in Congress. Jamal holds a B.A. from the University of Washington in Seattle\, majoring in Political Science with a focus on International Relations. He has written for The New York Times\, CNN\, Foreign Policy\, The Hill\, and USA Today and blogs at The Huffington Post.  He is a frequent guest contributor in print\, radio\, and television\, including appearances on Al Jazeera\, NPR\, BBC Radio\, and VOA. \nStephen Kinzer is an award-winning foreign correspondent who has covered more than 50 countries on five continents.  He was a New York Times foreign correspondent for 20 years and is now Senior Fellow at the Watson School of International and Public Affairs of Brown University and a Boston Globe opinion columnist.  His books include All the Shan’s Men: An American Coup and the Roots of Middle East Terror (2003). \nThe event will be online and presentations will be recorded.  Sponsored by NIAC and Massachusetts Peace Action Education Fund\, cosponsored by Veterans for Peace\, Just Foreign Policy\, About Face Northeast\, Center for International Policy\, Friends Committee on National Legislation\, and Military Families Speak Out. \n Register to attend.

SUMMARY:Stop the War on Iran rally
DESCRIPTION:President Trump has launched a regime change war on Iran\, without approval from Congress\, while negotiations are going on. \nRally today\, Saturday\, Feb 28\, at Park Street\, Boston\, 1pm to denounce this criminal agression by our government and demand an immediate end to the conflict. \nOther locations: \nLowell City Hall\, Feb 28\, noon \nNorthampton\, Main and King Streets\, Feb 28\, noon \nWorcester City Hall\, Feb 28\, 2pm \nHolyoke City Hall\, Feb 28\, 3pm \nTrump’s unprovoked\, illegal attack on Iran is an act of war that threatens to cause unthinkable death and destruction. But the people of this country reject another endless war and will take to the streets now and make our voices heard. \nIran has not attacked the United States. The government has been engaged in diplomatic negotiations up to the very last moment\, and has again and again insisted that it has no intention of developing a nuclear weapons program (which Trump claims to have “obliterated” last year anyway). Trump promised to bring peace to the world while he was running for office\, but he has done nothing but left a trail of devastation the world over. Rather than making executives at oil companies and weapons manufacturers richer\, our tax dollars should be used to meet people’s needs. \nBoston Rally Sponsors: National Iranian American Council\, Jewish Voice for Peace Boston\, Party for Socialism and Liberation\, Palestinian Youth Movement\, MAPA\, Boston Coalition for Palestine\, Northshore for Palestine\, Muslim Justice League\, Palestine House of New England\, Our Revolution Massachusetts\, About Face\, Veterans for Peace\, Jamaica Plain Progressives\, and Boston Democratic Socialists of America

SUMMARY:No Kings\, No War\, No ICE!
DESCRIPTION:We the People are We the Powerful.\nWe will not stand for another illegal foreign war or for an authoritarian takeover of the United States.\n \nTrump was defeated in Minneapolis and is losing in the courts\, and wants to escape focus on the Epstein files. \nNow\, in his biggest attack on democracy yet\, Trump\, working closely with Netanyahu\, has launched a massive unprovoked war of aggression against Iran. This war is a major violation of the U.S. constitution\, the UN charter and international law.  Its destructive impact is being felt across Middle East and the world. All this on top of Trump’s continued genocide in Palestine and phony “board of peace”\, gratuitous murder of scores of people in small boats\, seizure of oil tankers on the high seas\, criminal kidnapping of the president of Venezuela and illegal oil blockade to overthrow the government of Cuba. \nThe framers of the Constitution put the power to declare war in the hands of Congress for a reason.  We don’t want another war in the Middle East.  We need to end this illegal war and bring the troops home.  On March 28\, we will speak out\, expose President Trump’s lies\, and demand Congress defund this war.   \nThis war is costing a billion dollars a day – draining resources needed to sustain the well being of our neighbors and driving up the cost of everything.   But Trump is proposing a $1.5 trillion Pentagon budget while attacking healthcare\, housing\, education\, and the climate. \nJoin us on the Boston Common and in cities and towns across Massachusetts to say: No Kings\, No War\, No ICE! \nIn Boston\, sign up with MAPA to amplify the antiwar message.  Meet at the MAPA table near the Embrace statue starting at 12pm to distribute our antiwar literature\, petitions and postcards.  Bring your antiwar\, anti-ICE\, anti-authoritarian signs and messages.  We’ll provide signs and literature! \nThe Embrace statue is near Tremont St.\, about half way between Park St. and Boylston St.  The MAPA table will be right next to the statue\, on the other side of it from Tremont St.  We will load in materials from Tremont St. \nTable Setup Starts: 12 pm \nPathways to Power (visibility walk throughout the city with signs and banners): 1-2pm \nRally: 2-4pm \nAction Tables Open: 1-5pm \nIn cities across Massachusetts\, sign up with MAPA to bring the antiwar message to your local No Kings protest.  Help organize the protest in your town\, work with local protest organizers\, and ensure that an antiwar message and speaker is foregrounded.  Bring antiwar signs\, banners and petitions to ensure that the No War\, No ICE message is prominent.  Print our literature or contact us to receive materials by postal. \nAdditionally\, everyone\, sign up for the overall No Kings III Boston mobilization or for the event in your own town. \n \nMAPA materials to be distributed at No Kings III\nPrint and use in your town\, or contact the office to get copies \nThe Peace Advocate newsletter – March 2026 \nStop the Wars – Bring our Troops Home general antiwar petition \nStop the War on Iran half page flyer \nStop Trump’s War of Aggression Iran war pamphlet \nStop Trump’s War of Aggression Iran war petition \nTime to End the Trump-Netanyahu Alliance Iran war petition \nStop the Continuing Genocide in Gaza petition \nStop Trump’s Threats against Cuba pamphlet \nStop the Illegal War on Venezuela pamphlet \nStop the Illegal War on Iran 18 x 24 coroplast yard sign \nStop the Illegal War on Iran 11 x 17 printable poster

What is clear is that the President of the United States is conducting foreign policy by threatening genocide. \nIn the last 5 weeks\, the governments of Israel and the United States have killed over 1\,600 civilians\, including 244 children\, in Iran. Simultaneously\, Israel has killed over 1500 Lebanese people\, including 130 children\, with US weapons\, and ethnically cleansed South Lebanon. They have deceptively used the cover of diplomacy to assassinate Iranian negotiators and leaders. They have endangered the entire region and wasted billions of dollars. They have created an unnecessary shock on the world economy that is threatening the wellbeing of billions. \nA ceasefire agreement is welcome\, but it is not enough. President Trump has revealed that he is dangerously unfit for office. Tomorrow\, we will join with activists across the world to call for an immediate and complete end to the illegal wars on Iran and Lebanon. \nBoston rally sponsored by MAPA\, About Face\, Alliance for Water Justice in Palestine\, Answer Coalition\, Boston Democratic Socialists of America\, CD8 for Palestine\, If Not Now\, Jewish Voice for Peace Boston\, Mass. 50501\, Military Families Speak Out\, National Iranian American Council\, Palestinian Youth Movement\, SEIU Local 509\, Standing Up for Racial Justice\, Party for Socialism and Liberation\, Veterans for Peace.

SUMMARY:¡Cuba Sî\, Bloqueo No! (a WIRN webinar)
DESCRIPTION:¡Cuba Sí\, Bloqueo No! (a WIRN webinar) \nOur next War Industry Resisters Network  webinar on Wednesday\, April 22\, 8 pm ET will be about Cuba\, featuring Medea Benjamin and Danny Valdes. Please see below for information. You can register here: \n \nThe US has been sanctioning the people of Cuba for well over 60 years now. It has been an illegal\, unwarranted\, and immoral act of war and has crippled the Cuban economy with deadly results. Now\, with the fuel blockade\, conditions have worsened considerably\, with severe shortages in fuel\, food\, medicines\, and electricity. \nRecently\, CODEPINK’s Nuestra América Convoy delegation of 170 people delivered 6\,300 pounds of urgently needed medicines and medical supplies\, including neonatal equipment\, analgesics\, catheters\, and other critical hospital materials. The supplies\, valued at $433\,000\, were collected by Global Health Partners. \nThis webinar will address the nature of the US war on Cuba and the humanitarian efforts now happening on behalf of the Cuban people. It will be a call to action to stand with and speak out for our brothers and sisters in this beautiful neighboring nation. The presenters were organizers and participants for the recent delegation. \n \nPresenters: \nMedea Benjamin is a co-founder of CODEPINK and a prominent peace activist\, author\, and organizer focused on anti-war and human rights advocacy. \nDanny Valdes is a Cuban American organizer with Cuban Americans for Cuba and DSA leading national advocacy efforts to end the U.S. blockade and build solidarity.

SUMMARY:Volunteer callout: Tabling Action—End US-Israeli aggression (Iran\, Palestine\, Lebanon)
DESCRIPTION:Hi everyone\, we are going to table again this Saturday\, April 25 from noon to 1pm outside of Park Street Station. The focus will be on ending the U.S. – Israeli war on Iran (and Gaza and Lebanon). We will get petitions signed and postcards filled out at the table while we leaflet and hold signs and the new Iran banner. \nWhile the present situation with the ceasefire is complicated\, our job is to keep the pressure on to cut off all present funding for this war of aggression\, to bring our 50\,000 troops home\, and to stop Trump’s request for billions more for the war. \nSo we need volunteers both for the tabling/petition gathering/ leafleting from noon to 1pm. \nPlease join us if you can starting at 11:30am. If you have questions please call 617-623-5288 \nOrganized by Paul Shannon\, MAPA Middle East Working Group \n  \n

SUMMARY:Iran\, the United States\, and Why this War Matters
DESCRIPTION:Why is the US at war with Iran? \nDid Iranians come into existence in 1979 and start shouting “Death to America”?  \nIran is one of the most consistently demonized nations in U.S. discourse. U.S. officials\, and media\, frequently use obscene\, dehumanizing\, and misleading language with regards to Iran. \nThis consistent dehumanization helps manufacture consent for policies that have devastated the lives of ordinary Iranians in both Iran and the U.S. U.S. policy towards Iran over the past 47 years has consisted of economic warfare\, sabotage\, and overt and covert war\, with brief interludes of diplomacy. \nHowever\, the history of U.S.-Iran interactions is longer than that.   \nHow did we get here? What is the responsibility of those of us living in the U.S. towards ordinary Iranians and how does endless war affect us? \nWe will briefly review the history of U.S.-Iran relations in the context of the broader history of the Iranian struggle for sovereignty and attempt to address these questions. \nOur main presenter\, Bahar Sharafi\, is an Iranian-American activist\, born in Tehran with family there.   Now living in Dorchester\, she is a MAPA board member and co-chair of the MAPA-initiated Stop the US War on Iran committee.  Bahar is a volunteer leader with the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Iranian American Council\, and a co-founder of CD8 for Palestine. She spoke on the US-Iran war to 130\,000 people at the “No Kings III” rally on Boston Common\, March 30.  A second presenter will explain actions you can take and how to get involved. \nBahar is the narrator of the short film “A Glimpse of Iran“\, which shares sights\, sounds and reflections from her last trip to Iran\, and describes what it feels like to live in America while it wages an illegal war on her homeland.

First deployed to Iraq in March 2003\, he refused to return for a second deployment because of the lies that preceded the invasion\, the harm being done to the Iraqi people\, and because it went against everything he thought it meant to be a soldier. Denied conscientious objector status\, he was court-martialed\, confined for 15 months\, dishonorably discharged and lost all benefits. \nJeff Parente is a graduate of Penn State University and an Iraq War\, Marine Corps veteran. He joined the US Army ust before 9/11 and took part in the invasion of Iraq. When he returned home he got involved in the struggle against the war\, leading civil disobedience against the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan.  Many of the active duty soldiers who accessed the media he has produced\, including the podcast Eyes Left\, have become war resisters. \nNancy Goldner\, LICSW\, has been an anti-war activist since the Vietnam War. She has supported the emotional recovery of veterans from the trauma of America’s endless wars since founding the Returning Veterans Response Network in 2007.
