State Pension Plan from companies selling weapons to Israel and Mass. Peace Action’s divestment campaign focused on pressuring the Mass. State Pension Fund and Massachusetts Universities to divest their holding in companies that provide these weapons to Israel. \nNoam Perry is AFSC’s Economic Activism associate and one of the creators of Investigate\, AFSC’s project that aims to expose corporate involvement in oppressive state violence structures and to promote standards for corporate social responsibility and respect for human rights. Its research efforts focus on corporations involved in incarceration and immigrant detention\, the Israeli occupation\, and the border industries. These are AFSC program focus areas\, where there is an identified lack of available resources\, coupled with explicit requests for such resources from the movements we work with. The Investigate project reaches out to the responsible investment community\, to community activists\, and to interfaith partners with information and tools for corporate engagement\, corporate accountability\, and divestment initiatives\, to support the building of wide movements that can influence\, limit\, and monitor corporate abuse. \nRegister to attend.

DESCRIPTION:On June 20\, President Trump ordered an illegal and unconstitutional attack on Iran\, for which there is no justification. Join us at the JFK Federal Building (Cambridge Street entrance) this Thursday\, June 26 at 12pm to demand a return to diplomacy\, no further military strikes; a full congressional investigation and public accounting; a complete rejection of this war; and a ceasefire in Gaza. \nOn June 23rd\, 10 days after the start of the unprovoked and illegal US-backed Israeli aggression against Iran\, President Trump announced a ceasefire between Iran and Israel. While we hope that this fragile ceasefire holds\, our recent experience with Israel’s numerous ceasefire violations in Gaza and Lebanon makes us fear that it may not. We continue to push to prevent the U.S. from getting involved in an all-out regional war. Congress must act now and pass the Iran War Powers resolutions filed by Sen. Kaine and Reps. LMPD arrested the protestors and they spent half a day in jail. Ten of the protestors plead guilty and accepted a deal while five remained and decided to take the case to trial. This webinar welcomes three members of the Raytheon 5 to discuss their journey from arrest to spectacle of their gag-ordered trial\, where all five were found guilty of trespassing on key infrastructure assets. \n \nThis webinar welcomes three members of the Raytheon 5 to discuss their journey from arrest to spectacle of their gag-ordered trial\, where all five were found guilty of trespassing on key infrastructure assets. \nPresenters: \nScott Rosario Mottola is a writer\, organizer\, and service industry worker. She/they is a daughter of holocaust survivors. Wilde-de Vries has been to occupied Palestine several times. \nAsh Eisenmenger\, is an artist who’s been involved in the movement for collective liberation in various capacities since awakening to systemic oppression through an AORTA Cooperative workshop in 2014. Since the rise of Hugo Chavez\, there have been coup attempts\, sanctions\, subversive support of the right-wing opposition\, theft of financial assets\, and the widespread dissemination of lies and propaganda portraying Venezuela as a threat to the U.S. But now\, the Trump regime appears more determined than ever to bring about regime change in this country that has the largest proven reserves of oil in the world. \nThe danger of this U.S aggression is not just to the people of Venezuela\, but to the rest of Latin America as well\, especially to the targeted nations of Cuba\, Nicaragua\, and Colombia. The U.S.\, under the banner of the Monroe Doctrine\, considers all of Latin America its sphere of influence and means to reinvigorate its dominance and exploitation of natural resources there. Capturing Venezuela would be a jewel in the imperial crown\, but it would also inevitably lead to more and more neo-colonization throughout the hemisphere. \n \nSpeakers: \nJohn Perry\, based in Nicaragua\, is with the Nicaragua Solidarity Coalition and writes for the Grayzone\, London Review of Books\, FAIR\, Covert Action and elsewhere \nRoger Harris taught political science at a Historically Black College in Mississippi in the late 1960s and was involved in the civil rights movement and community organizing in East Harlem\, New York City. Meanwhile\, outside actors openly brag about exploiting the situation for their ends\, and reports suggest a military strike by the Trump Administration might be imminent.  \nOn Friday\, Jan. 30th at 3 pm\, NIAC President\, Jamal Abdi\, will join journalist and analyst Negar Mortazavi and award-winning foreign affairs correspondent and author of All the Shah’s Men\, Stephen Kinzer\, in conversation. The panel will unpack the current situation inside Iran and the geopolitical landscape\, including U.S. and Israeli calculations following the 12-day war last June that killed hundreds of Iranian civilians\, and where we go from here.  \nNegar Mortazavi is an award-winning journalist and commentator\, editor and host of the Iran Podcast\, Senior Fellow at the Center for International Policy (CIP)\, and Nonresident Scholar at the Middle East Policy Council in Washington DC. She has been covering Iranian and Middle Eastern affairs as well as US foreign policy towards the Middle East for over a decade. The exact details of the deal are unclear. It has been an illegal\, unwarranted\, and immoral act of war and has crippled the Cuban economy with deadly results. Now\, with the fuel blockade\, conditions have worsened considerably\, with severe shortages in fuel\, food\, medicines\, and electricity. \nRecently\, CODEPINK’s Nuestra América Convoy delegation of 170 people delivered 6\,300 pounds of urgently needed medicines and medical supplies\, including neonatal equipment\, analgesics\, catheters\, and other critical hospital materials. The supplies\, valued at $433\,000\, were collected by Global Health Partners. \nThis webinar will address the nature of the US war on Cuba and the humanitarian efforts now happening on behalf of the Cuban people. It will be a call to action to stand with and speak out for our brothers and sisters in this beautiful neighboring nation. The presenters were organizers and participants for the recent delegation. \n \nPresenters: \nMedea Benjamin is a co-founder of CODEPINK and a prominent peace activist\, author\, and organizer focused on anti-war and human rights advocacy. \nDanny Valdes is a Cuban American organizer with Cuban Americans for Cuba and DSA leading national advocacy efforts to end the U.S. blockade and build solidarity.

DESCRIPTION:Hi everyone\, we are going to table again this Saturday\, April 25 from noon to 1pm outside of Park Street Station. The focus will be on ending the U.S. – Israeli war on Iran (and Gaza and Lebanon). We will get petitions signed and postcards filled out at the table while we leaflet and hold signs and the new Iran banner. \nWhile the present situation with the ceasefire is complicated\, our job is to keep the pressure on to cut off all present funding for this war of aggression\, to bring our 50\,000 troops home\, and to stop Trump’s request for billions more for the war. \nSo we need volunteers both for the tabling/petition gathering/ leafleting from noon to 1pm. \nPlease join us if you can starting at 11:30am. SUMMARY:Iran\, the United States\, and Why this War Matters
DESCRIPTION:Why is the US at war with Iran?  \nDid Iranians come into existence in 1979 and start shouting “Death to America”?  \nIran is one of the most consistently demonized nations in U.S. discourse. U.S. officials\, and media\, frequently use obscene\, dehumanizing\, and misleading language with regards to Iran.  \nThis consistent dehumanization helps manufacture consent for policies that have devastated the lives of ordinary Iranians in both Iran and the U.S. U.S. policy towards Iran over the past 47 years has consisted of economic warfare\, sabotage\, and overt and covert war\, with brief interludes of diplomacy.  \nHowever\, the history of U.S.-Iran interactions is longer than that.   \nHow did we get here? What is the responsibility of those of us living in the U.S. towards ordinary Iranians and how does endless war affect us?  \nWe will briefly review the history of U.S.-Iran relations in the context of the broader history of the Iranian struggle for sovereignty and attempt to address these questions. \nOur main presenter\, Bahar Sharafi\, is an Iranian-American activist\, born in Tehran with family there.   Now living in Dorchester\, she is a MAPA board member and co-chair of the MAPA-initiated Stop the US War on Iran committee.  Bahar is a volunteer leader with the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Iranian American Council\, and a co-founder of CD8 for Palestine. She spoke on the US-Iran war to 130\,000 people at the “No Kings III” rally on Boston Common\, March 30.  A second presenter will explain actions you can take and how to get involved. \nBahar is the narrator of the short film “A Glimpse of Iran“\, which shares sights\, sounds and reflections from her last trip to Iran\, and describes what it feels like to live in America while it wages an illegal war on her homeland.
