SUMMARY:Antiwar Open House
DESCRIPTION:Almost 1\,000 people signed petitions\, carried signs\, and reached out at NO KINGS III last Saturday\, March 28\, to express resistance to Trump’s wars on Iran and various other countries. The signed petitions will be sent to our elected officials in Congress to let them know we expect them to stand up to the KING and cut off all funding for his disastrous wars. Opposition to these wars carried out by a cruel King  is building and media coverage of the massive NO KINGS demonstrations around the country make it clear that rage among young people against the U.S.-Israeli illegal war of aggression against Iran was a top reason for many young people joining. \nWe are Massachusetts Peace Action (MAPA). Every day we work to stop this KING’s wars and end his cruelty toward our immigrant neighbors as we try to build a country on the bedrock of community. Do you think you would like to get more involved in preventing Trump from sending ICE into our cities and ground troops into Iran? Or stopping his $200 billion request for additional funding for his war against Iran war\, funding that is  taken from our own communities? Or creating a solid wall of opposition to his collaboration with the continuing genocide in Gaza? Or ending his illegal oil blockade of Cuba that is wreaking such suffering on its people? Or standing against his continuing extra-judicial murders of civilians in boats in the Caribbean\, his abduction of Venezuela’s President\, and his insistence that he will run Venezuela and take its oil? \nThe meeting will be held in the Lounge of St. James Episcopal Church\, three blocks north of Porter Square in Cambridge. The location can be confusing. If you have not been to the venue before\, please review these directions and arrive a few minutes early to make sure you find us!  (The directions page are for the Parish Hall which is right across the hall from the Lounge.) \n

SUMMARY:Responding to a World in Crisis: 2026 MAPA Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Join us at MAPA’s 2026 annual meeting! \nThe rogue actions of the Trump regime have culminated in a dizzying array of global upheavals.  As we face a challenge of historic proportions\, MAPA activists are redoubling our efforts across the Commonwealth\, reaching into growing movements and building a renewed commitment to peace. \nWe will begin the meeting hearing from Board members Evan McKay\, Tony Van Der Meer\, and Keith Harvey (pictured above) about the current crises created by our country’s aggressive foreign policy\, how this is affecting the domestic political environment\, and about MAPA’s work in both arenas. \nAfter a Q&A period\, we will review the organization’s finances\, consider and vote on proposed amendments to the MAPA bylaws\, and elect members to the Board of Directors. The last part of the meeting will be devoted to a small group discussion and activity designed to inspire\, build community\, and strengthen our resolve to meet the challenges ahead. \nAGENDA \n2:00pm: Registration Opens; Meet and Greet over heavy hors d’oeuvres\n2:30pm: Welcome\, Land Acknowledgement\, & Overview of Day\n2:35pm: Featured speakers\, board members Evan McKay\, Tony Van Der Meer\, and Keith Harvey followed by Q and A\n3:05pm: Board endorsements for the upcoming 2026 Congressional elections\n3:27pm: Business meeting\n4:02pm: Board Transitions and Election of New Board Members \n4:22pm: Small group discussion and activity focused on our theme Responding to a World in Crisis \nNominations to the Board of Directors \n \nProposed amendments to the MAPA bylaws\nThe Board of Directors have passed a resolution proposing changes to the bylaws pertaining to the Board size and the composition of the Executive Committee. After review\, members will vote whether to accept or reject the following changes: \n\n\n\n\n\n\nSection 3.03: Currently\, MAPA bylaws limit the Board size to at least three and no more than 25 Directors. The resolution proposes to maintain the minimum but grants the Board the power to determine the maximum number of Directors. \nSection 4.01: Extant bylaws grant the Board the power to\, “appoint not less than three or more than seven Directors or individuals of the MAPA Advisory Council who have served as MAPA Directors to comprise the Executive Committee.” The resolution proposes the Committee no longer be capped at seven and that MAPA staff be included among potential appointees. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nMembers who wish to run for the board or nominate someone should contact the office no later than April 11\, 2026 at info@masspeaceaction.org or by phone\, 617-354-2169.  Five signatures of members are required for a nomination. \nNominees will meet with the Board Recruitment Committee to discuss the roles and responsibilities of a board member. All new board members will sign a board agreement outlining these responsibilities. \nMembers are welcome to attend without charge.  You can pay your dues as you register to ensure that you are a member in good standing. \nNot sure whether you are a member?  You can go to your Member Information Page:  https://masspeace.us/member-info\, enter your email address and click submit\, and receive a link to sign in.  If you’ve donated within the past year\, you are a member!   Or call the office at 617-354-2169 or write info@masspeaceaction.org \nThe meeting will be held in the Parish Hall of St. James Episcopal Church\, three blocks north of Porter Square in Cambridge. The location can be confusing. If you have not been to the venue before\, please review these directions and arrive a few minutes early to make sure you find us!
