Music and dance bring us together in joy and community. \nThis performance invites us into deep stillness. Sway and flow with the music\, or jump up and shout! \nDuring dark times\, art is a light\, and a powerful form of resistance. Let us come together and enjoy a bit of respite amidst the tragedies we face at home and abroad. \n  \nARTISTS: \nStan Strickland (aka Rajahn) – Singer\, saxophonist\, flutist\, Stan has performed throughout the US\, Europe\, New Zealand and the Caribbean. He has played with the Boston Pops\, Aretha Franklin\, Yusef Lateef\, and Herbie Mann and has opened for Miles Davis and Sonny Rollins\, among others! He is Associate Professor of Voice at the Berklee College of Music and Executive Co-Director of EXPRESS YOURSELF\, an organization serving youth who are mentally challenged. His one man show: ‘Coming Up for Air\, an Auto-Jazzography’\, received the prestigious Eliot Norton Award in Theater for best solo performance. \nAkili Jamal Haynes – Akili Jamal Haynes’s artistic name is Chibuzo Dunun\, as Chibuzo comes from the Igbo people in Nigeria and Dunun represents a family of drummers – often considered leaders in West African cultures. He is a faculty accompanist at Boston Conservatory at Berklee as well as the Harvard Dance Center. He served as assistant researcher and arranger for an Alvin Ailey Dance Theater production\, directed by Judith Jamison. He is the founder\, director\, and multi-instrumentalist for Chibuzo Dunun and World of Chibuzo. \nJosh Rosen – A distinguished composer and professor of Piano and Ensembles at Berklee College of Music\, Josh has played to audiences in Europe and Africa. He has released nine critically acclaimed CDs with his unique jazz compositions\, known for their melodic harmonies. Critics have praised his piano playing for its sophistication\, emotional depth\, and complexity. He performed with jazz greats\, including Rakalam Bob Moses\, and Joe Lovano\, and he was part of the Lincoln Center’s Summer Festival. \nMax Ridley – A very active Boston-based musician\, composer and teacher who attended Boston Arts High School after falling in love with the Double Bass and the art of improvised music. Max was awarded full scholarships to study at the Berklee College of Music and also earned his master’s degree from Berklee’s Global Jazz Institute. Max has played with leading musicians such as Kenny Weiner\, Terry Lyne Carrington\, and Perico Sambeat. He has performed at the Lincoln Center\, the Kennedy Center\, and at the Umbria Jazz Festival.

SUMMARY:Ghost Hunting: Palestine Film Series
DESCRIPTION:In order to confront the ghosts that haunt him\, Palestinian director Raed Andoni assembles an eclectic group of ex prisoners to recreate the Al-Moskobiya\, Israel’s main interrogation centre\, where he was himself jailed at age 18. Day after day\, these construction workers\, a blacksmith\, an architect\, an assistant director give shape to their memories of how they survived with grit and a sense of humor. As the walls of the cells rise\, the tongues and the emotions loosen. \nGhost Hunting is a 2017 Palestinian documentary film directed by Raed Andoni and starring Ramzi Maqdisi. It was awarded the best documentary at the Berlinale 2017. Also\, it was selected as the Palestinian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards.   The film runs 94 minutes and will be followed by discussion. \nDirections: The film will be shown in the Parish Hall of St. James Episcopal Church\, three blocks north of Porter Square in Cambridge. DESCRIPTION:Palestine 36 is an internationally acclaimed 2025 historical drama and epic written and directed by Annemarie Jacir. The film interweaves fictional narratives with archival footage and historical recreation to tell its story. \n1936. As villages across Mandatory Palestine rise against British colonial rule\, Yusuf drifts between his rural home and the restless energy of Jerusalem\, longing for a future beyond the growing unrest. But history is relentless. With rising numbers of Jewish immigrants escaping antisemitism in Europe\, and the Palestinian population uniting in the largest and longest uprising against Britain’s 30-year dominion\, all sides spiral towards inevitable collision in a decisive moment for the British Empire and the future of the entire region. \nThe farmer-led revolt against British colonialism in 1936 marked the beginning of the largest and longest uprising against Britain’s 30-year rule. Palestinians from all classes were mobilized\, and nationalistic sentiment spread in the Arabic press\, schools\, social and literary circles. The British\, taken aback by the extent and intensity of the revolt\, retaliated by placing Palestine under martial law\, deploying over twenty thousand troops to Palestine\, and still failed to control a population of less than one million people. Ships arrived loaded with tanks and machine guns. The Royal Air Force began strafing the countryside. Thousands of Palestinians were imprisoned\, beaten\, and the leadership exiled.
