Nearly half of federal income taxes are directed to US militarism. In addition, the current invasion of Gaza is largely funded by military foreign aid to Israel. Refusing payment of federal income taxes is one way to refuse direct participation in US militarism. This session will be an introduction to the whys and hows of war tax resistance, with a discussion of potential consequences and resource referral. This session is for people new to war tax resistance or just getting started. Facilitated by Lincoln Rice (NWTRCC Coordinator) & Carolyn Yoder (psychotherapist and longtime war tax resister). Please invite anyone who you think might be interested to participate.
Lincoln Rice has been the Coordinator for the National War Tax Resistance Coordinating Committee since May 2018 and a war tax resister since 1998. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and earned his PhD in Christian Ethics in 2013 from Marquette University. He has published in the areas of Black
liberation theology and social ethics.
Carolyn Yoder is a psychotherapist specializing in individual and collective trauma and resilience. She is a mother and grandmother living in Harrisonburg, Virgina where she is directing a Climate trauma, action, resilience, and regeneration training program. She and her husband redirect/resist a portion of their federal income taxes each year.
