Vigil Honoring Shireen Abu Akleh & Commemorating 74 Years of Nakba in Palestine

Fri May 20 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

On May 11th, 2022, Al-Jazeera’s Palestinian correspondent, Shireen Abu Akleh, was shot and killed by the Israeli Forces even though she was clearly marked as Press. To add insult to injury, Israeli police viciously attacked mourners carrying Shireen’s casket in Jerusalem with batons and stun grenades. Despite efforts to silence Palestinian voices and turn around the narrative regarding her death, defenders of human rights all around the world see this for what it is— a clear continuation of the IDF’s disregard for Palestinian life and human rights.
This year marks 74 years since the Nakba (Catastrophe) which saw hundreds of thousands of Palestinians displaced by the Israeli forces. For 74 years, in clear violation of international law, the Israeli government has been forcibly evicting, killing, and denying Palestinians their basic human rights. Since 2000, more than 40 journalists have been killed by Israeli Forces without accountability. This system of brutal military occupation which continues today has been clearly labeled as Apartheid by Israeli and international Human Rights Groups alike:

Let us stand together to honor her life— and the lives of all Palestinians lost since 1948— marking 74 years of continued Palestinian resilience
