The Crisis in Haiti: A Historical and Political Conversation

Thu July 15, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

The Crisis in Haiti

On July 7, 2021, the president of Haiti, Jovenel Moise was assassinated. Since 2018 he has been ruling by decree, and together with allied gangs, executed a campaign to terrorize and destroy the popular movement in Haiti. This campaign was financed and supported by the US which has been dominating Haiti since the US military occupied Haiti from 1915 to 1934.

Haiti continues to be the poorest country in the Latin American/Caribbean region and among the poorest and most unequal countries in the world. Yet Haiti has a glorious history as the first country to defeat slavery and colonialism and become the first independent country in the Caribbean and Latin America.

In this webinar, the speakers will discuss the historical roots of the current political, economic, and humanitarian crisis in Haiti with special attention to the rise and fall of President Aristide.  Register here!
