Boston Free Assange Rally Calling on Merrick Garland to Stop Criminalization of Journalism
Mon November 8 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm EST
Monday, November 8th, Boston Area Assange Defense will hold a rally at Park St Station, 11am-12:30pm. Please join us to defend our First Amendment and the human rights of journalist Julian Assange!
This rally is on the heels of the Oct 27-28 U.S. appeal hearing to extradite Julian Assange, who won his case in January 2021. The U.S. is continuing its effort to extradite the journalist who exposed massive evidence of U.S. war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan.
This US/UK ‘show trial’ seeks to crush journalistic oversight on the governments’ endless wars by criminalizing anti-war journalism. Code Pink writes:
In a nutshell, Julian Assange’s appeal hearing: The same country that plotted* to kill Assange promises to treat him humanely in prison.
During the 2-day hearing, the U.S. prosecution laid out ‘assurances’ to the two High Court judges claiming that Julian Assange will be safe in their hands. And the defense argued that Assange is too ill, too suicide-vulnerable to be extradited to a country with harsh prison conditions – claiming that the U.S. ‘assurances’ aren’t worth the paper they’re written on. Will the High Court protect a world-renowned journalist from an effective death sentence?

Stella Moris, Assange’s partner, speaks outside the High Court:
“The crimes that have been undertaken by the US government against Julian are now exposed before the courts. Today we were able to air in court Mike Pompeo’s plans to assassinate Julian.”
