March to End Fossil Fuels with the Anti-Militarists

Join the Anti-Militarism Hub in New York City on September 17 in the March to End Fossil Fuels! On this day, thousands will take to the streets to demand President Biden take bold action to eliminate fossil fuels.

The march is taking place just days before UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres’ “Climate Ambition Summit.” We know that for real climate ambition, we must address the largest institutional polluter in the world, the US Pentagon. The time to take action for a livable and peaceful planet is now.

The march demands that President Biden:

1. Stop all federal approvals for new fossil fuel projects and repeal permits for climate bombs like the Willow Project and the Mountain Valley Pipeline.
2. Phase out fossil fuel drilling on our public lands and waters.
3. Declare a climate emergency to halt fossil fuel exports and investments abroad, and turbo-change the build-out of more just, resilient distributed energy (like rooftop and community solar).
4. Provide a just transition to a renewable energy future that generates millions of jobs while supporting workers’ and community rights, job security, and employment equity.

The anti-militarism hub has four additional demands we are upholding at the march:

1. Cut the Pentagon budget by at least $100 billion and shift the savings to the Green New Deal and other environmental justice and human needs programs each year going forward.
2. Report military emissions: The US and all nations must acknowledge and report greenhouse gas emissions from military operations and weapons production.
3. Reduce US military emissions by 50% by 2030, the Biden Administration’s stated goal for all US emissions.
4. Prevent nuclear war, prevent climate meltdown: The US must sign the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

Important Logistics: The anti-militarism hub will meet in Manhattan at the SE corner of Broadway and 55th St at 11:30am, to conduct outreach and community engagement in preparation for the march. The exact address is 210 W 55th St outside Serafina Italian Restaurant. The march will start at 1pm on Broadway and W 56th St, continuing down to 52nd St and turning east toward 1st St and ending with a rally at 1st Ave and 51st St, near the United Nations headquarters, around 4:30pm.
