We are passing through one of the most perilous periods of national and international tension in many decades. In such times it is critically important that Massachusetts Peace Action and sister organizations remain beacons of clarity — calling for peaceful resolutions of conflict, promotion of social and economic justice, and reducing the danger of nuclear war.
Our Annual Meeting, open to all dues paying members, is a key gathering to affirm our values and set our path forward for the coming year. Please join the MAPA Annual Meeting on April 29, 2023!
The keynote address on “The New Cold War and Racial Justice” will be presented by historian, writer and political activist Gerald Horne. Horne holds the John J. and Rebecca Moores Chair of History and African American Studies at the University of Houston. He is the author of more than three dozen books and over 100 scholarly articles and reviews. His research shines a light into overlooked areas of world history and examines misrepresented individuals and populations as related to labor, politics, civil rights and war. He received his Ph.D. in history from Columbia University and his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.
Professor Horne is the 2022 recipient of American Book Award for The Apocalypse of Settler Colonialism: The Roots of Slavery, White Supremacy and Capitalism in Seventeenth Century North America and the Caribbean. His other books include The Counter-Revolution of 1776: Slave Resistance and the Origins of the United States of America and Confronting Black Jacobins: The U.S. and the Haitian Revolution and the Origins of the Dominican Republic.
His latest book is The Counter-Revolution of 1836: Texas Slavery & Jim Crow and the Roots of U. S. Fascism.
After the keynote address and Q&A period, the board will present MAPA’s 2023 program plan for ratification by the members.
Breakouts will allow members to meet each other and make new connections.
In the business meeting, we will elect board members and hear a financial report from the treasurer.
Board nominees will be announced by April 1. Members who wish to run for the board or nominate someone should contact the office at info@masspeaceaction.org or by phone, 617-354-2169. Five signatures of members are required for a nomination.
Register to attend. Registration is free for MAPA members. Others are invited to pay membership dues and register at the same time.
