The NATO alliance will make plans to continue the Ukraine war and to continue its global expansion at its summit in Vilnius, Lithuania, July 11-12. Presidents Biden, Macron of France, Erdogan of Turkey, Zelenskyy of Ukraine, Yoon Suk Yeol of South Korea, and Prime Minister Sunak of Great Britain, are among the expected attendees.
What is NATO? How did it get started? What are its purpose and current commtments? How has it expanded over the years, and how is it continuing to do so? What is its future path?
Joseph Gerson will give us a crash course in NATO and provide an evaluation of the results of the Vilnius summit. He is president of the Campaign for Peace, Disarmament, and Common Security (CPDCS) and a board member of MAPA. He is the author of multiple books on peace issues , including Empire and the Bomb: How the U.S. Uses Nuclear Weapons to Dominate the World. Gerson is a founding member of the No to War No to NATO Network and has participated in numerous NATO counter-summit conferences and protests, and recently returned from the International Summit for Peace in Ukraine, held in Vienna on June 10-11.
