For the People Act = The Freedom to Vote!

Sat June 26 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm EDT

Freedom to Vote Boston Rally

As the Senate prepares for one of the most consequential weeks in its history as a deliberative body, it has become very clear that unless we, the people, act now, S1: The For the People Act will not be enacted; it will not even be debated as it’s most likely that the only vote that will be taken will be one to filibuster it. It has become abundantly clear that in order to save democracy the filibuster must be eliminated at which point S1 can be brought back to the Senate floor for a vote. Only then can a democratic vote be taken on a bill that the majority of Americans want and support to ensure that everyone has the Freedom to Vote!

On Saturday, June 26th from 2- 3:30 PM, Indivisibles and at least twenty advocacy, civic, faith and labor groups representing nearly 100,000 Massachusetts voters will converge on Boston Common for their Freedom to Vote rally. S1 will halt 95% of the Republican state-level attacks on voting rights aimed primarily at voters of color, and we will demand that the Senate bypass the filibuster and pass S1: The For the People Act. The Senate must do the work that the majority of Americans want them to do.

This is not a partisan issue. Americans of both parties overwhelmingly support the For the People Act. As the fate of our democracy hangs in the balance, the Freedom to Vote rally will coincide with thousands of other events to be held across the country to demonstrate massive grassroots support of the For the People Act.

The Boston Freedom to Vote rally will also coincide with the arrival in Washington D.C. of the Freedom Ride bus tour. This bus tour, organized by Black Voters Matter, commemorates the 60th anniversary of the original Freedom Ride movement as a means to unite voters in the fight to protect voting rights.

To meet this moment, IMC is joining with allies from across the grassroots spectrum to assemble all the supports that are needed, including event marshals and peacekeepers, water stations, medical support and a fully equipped stage with a state- of-the-art sound system. Together, we will demonstrate the passion of the citizens of our Commonwealth in defense of fair elections and the right to vote.

It was here in Mass that democracy began, and it is here that we will defend it again.
