The Bay State Banner on April 30 reported, “After weeks of backlash from communities of color, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health revised its “crisis standards of care” on April 20. Advocates say that these guidelines, which establish priorities for which patients are given highest priority for COVID-19 treatment, are still not as equitable as they should be.”

In this webinar we will identify some of the racial health inequities that have been dramatically revealed by the Covid19 pandemic and will focus on actions and policy changes to end these health disparities.  Policies and practices within all our institutions, of local, state, and federal government, and of our economic system are now contributing to these health disparities and the suffering concomitant to them. We look forward to our panelists speaking from the perspectives of their different points of view as we apply a racial equity lens to the issue of health and health care.

We in the peace movement have recognized for decades that unlimited US military spending is not resulting in security. As MAPA Board member Jeff Klein wrote in the Dorchester Reporter last month, ” What keeps us safe, and what doesn’t?… Universal access to healthcare or endless wars? Paid sick leave for everyone or a $738 billion Pentagon budget? A well-funded public health system or a vast military-industrial complex? “

Join us on May 17 to consider a critical question about our national and international security: “How is racism damaging the health of people of color and undercutting the health of the entire community?”
