Defuse Nuclear War: Livestream
Sun October 2, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm EDT
October 2022 marks the 60th anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis — when the Soviet Union and U.S. engaged in a tense standoff over the installation of nuclear weapons in Cuba. It is widely considered the closest the two superpowers ever came to nuclear war… until now.
While the dangers of nuclear war have risen sharply this year, very few members of the House and Senate have risen to the occasion by speaking out or publicly urging measures to de-escalate tensions between nuclear powers and seriously revive negotiations for nuclear-weapons treaties and disarmament measures.
This October, we demand attention be paid to the very real threat posed by nuclear weapons.
With a diversity of speakers along with a wide range of information and analysis, this livestream will emphasize the importance of activism while encouraging creative participation in events on Oct. 14 and 16.
Speakers will include Professor Vincent Intondi, Dr. Assal Raad, Alice Slater, Norman Solomon, David Swanson, Alyn Ware, Marcy Winograd, Hanieh Jodat, and Ryan Black, among others.
Defuse Nuclear War is co-sponsored by 100 groups.
