With little more than a week to go, artists Dionne Warwick, Michael McDonald, and African Pop Star Ricardo Lemvo, have added their names and music to the already all-star line- up of musicians that are gathering for the Concert for Cuba the two-night musical event to be held on July 18th and 19th. To be broadcast from the Instituto Cubano de Musica in Havana, Cuba and viewed across the globe through HotHouseGlobal on TwitchTV the two-night, six hour event features 30 musical performances, including the great Afro-Cuban artists for which Cuba is known. Additionally a variety of well-known human rights activists, artists and political leaders will join the unprecedented musical gathering to honor both Cuba’s cultural tradition and the role that the island has played during the pandemic, sending medical teams and aid to more than 30 nations during the last months.
“A Concert for Cuba” is sponsored by: the Instituto Cubano de la Música/The Cuban Institute of Music; Marguerite Horberg for HotHouse (Chicago, IL); Raul Cuza (Montreal, Canada); and Bill Martinez (San Francisco, CA). Its media sponsors are WDCB and The Pacifica Foundation. The concert will contain both live and pre-recorded musical performances and appearances broadcast at 7pm CST/8pm EST/6pm PST on both July 18th and 19th from Havana’s Instituto Cubano. The emcees for the concert are Chelis López and Felix Contreras.
The concert is free and will be available through a variety of channels, both within and outside of Cuba. The concert that will be broadcast to a world-wide audience from Cuba, the Americas and Europe, over two-nights on Sat., July 18th and Sun., 19th at 7pm CST/8pm EST/6pm PST, at no charge — will be the world’s largest virtual performance and first-ever tribute for Cuba. Marguerite Horberg, who developed HotHouseGlobal as a pandemic-inspired adaption of her decades-long presenting of international music, says, ironically this concert may gather the broadest audience ever to a single night of Cuban inspired music. “While the pandemic has deprived us of the joy of live music in the clubs and spaces that we’ve loved, through this concert we are reaching more people with a combination of styles and talent that has rarely – if ever been seen before, and certainly never by so many people in so many places.”
Rev. Jesse Jackson and U.S. Representatives Jesús “Chuy” García and Danny Davis join the musicians and other many well-known political activists, artists and leaders whom are known for their decades-long activism in defense of human rights and dignity that will appear or have endorsed the “Concert for Cuba,” including Ed Asner, Alfredo Caxaj, Angela Davis, Danny Glover, Mike Farrell, Juan De Marcos González, Ed Harris, Michael Moore, Ron Pearlman, Aislinn Sol, and David Soul, Medea Benjamin, City of LA, CD 11Councilman Mike Bonin, Jontay Darko, James Early, Jorge Gomez, Antonio Gonzales, Alicia Jrapko, Wilfred W.
