Yemen is a Massachusetts/ Raytheon War. It’s Time to End It!

August 15 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Saturday, August 15th

Davis Sq. (Statue Park, 4 College Ave, Somerville 02144)

Americans don’t support the war in Yemen. They don’t support arms sales to Saudi Arabia. Yet the war goes on and on. Why? We think it has something to do with the billions in profit being made by the weapons makers like Raytheon, based right here in Massachusetts. Since the profits from this war are lining the pockets of Raytheon executives, we feel that it’s the responsibility of the people of Massachusetts to raise their voices in opposition to the genocide in Yemen.

For five years, a coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the UAE has been bombing the country of Yemen, routinely striking hospitals, schools, food-storage facilities and water-treatment plants.

The coalition is also using man-made famine as a weapon of war. Over 14 million people, half the population, now live on the brink of starvation. The war in Yemen, which the United Nations calls “the world’s worst humanitarian crisis,” has caused the death of at least 85,000 children under the age of 5 from starvation. One million people have contracted cholera.

Waltham-based Raytheon Technologies is a major arms supplier for Saudi Arabia and has actively lobbied against Congressional curbs on weapons sales to the Saudis. U.S. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper is a former Raytheon lobbyist.

We call on Raytheon Technologies to immediately cease selling weapons to Saudi Arabia and to use its vast brain power and facilities to meet human needs instead.

Please join us at the corner in Statue Park at Davis Sq. in Somerville. Bring a sign or borrow one of ours. Masks and physical distancing required.
