White Nationalism, Community Response, and the Rule of Law

April 30, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Temple B’nai Brith of Somerville and the City of Somerville Human Rights Commission invite you to a timely forum with Elden Rosenthal (Southern Poverty Law Center) and Steven Gardiner (Political Research Associates)

Our communities have been horrified by the murders of African Americans at Emanuel AME church in Charleston SC, the White Nationalist march in Charlottesville VA, the bloodshed at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh PA, and the massacres at Al Noor and Linwood Mosques in Christchurch New Zealand. White Nationalist and other hate groups have proliferated in recent decades. Anti-Semitism is a central tenet of their ideology, with increasing anti-immigrant fervor and Islamophobia. These hate groups and their appeals to violence openly flout the rule of law. We seek to build alliances among our communities to support each other and to work together to counter this resurgence.

Elden Rosenthal is an attorney and Board member of the Southern Poverty Law Center, who, with co-counsel Morris Dees, won the 1991 landmark case which bankrupted the White Aryan Resistance.

Steven Gardiner, PhD is an analyst with Political Research Associates, a social justice think tank that studies the U.S. Right, and he is the Area Lead for their Racial & Immigrant Justice Program.
