US-Iran Conflict: The Cost of Sanctions and Risks of Regional War

September 19 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

US - Iran Conflict

Boston University, College of General Studies Room 511 871 Comm. Ave Boston, MA

The Trump administration is charting a course for war with Iran. After withdrawing from the Iran Nuclear Agreement last year Trump has repeatedly threatened Iran and deployed more troops, warships, and bombers to the region.

The administration has also increased sanctions as part of a “maximum pressure” campaign. The stated goal of these sanctions is to change the behavior of the Iranian government. Though sanctions are often portrayed as a peaceful alternative to military intervention their actual effect is incredibly harmful to ordinary Iranians, especially poor and working people. US policy is making medicine and even basic items like baby formula difficult to purchase. This unnecessary strain gives support to the more militant members of the Iranian government and increases the chances of an American war with Iran.

Come learn about the real effects of sanctions and how you can get involved to stop this unnecessary and dangerous war.

Panelists include:
Michael Klare, professor emeritus of peace and world security studies at Hampshire College; senior visiting fellow, Arms Control Association

Mojgan Haji, Massachusetts coordinator, National Iranian-American Council
