Trump’s Global Policies and the Threat of WW III with Mark Solomon
November 5, 2017 @ 11:00 am - 1:30 pm
Donald Trump has promised a foreign policy that “puts America first,” threatening to uproot the global imperil order in effect since the end of World War II. He has threatened to ignite nuclear war against North Korea, has threatened to cancel the nuclear agreement with Iran, has antagonized friends and adversaries from Mexico to China and has withdrawn from the Paris climate accord. However, are such acts totally at odds with global policies pursued by both past Democratic and Republican administrations? That question demands investigation and action. Progressive forces have been relatively silent on global issues. That silence must end.
Mark Solomon, Professor Emeritus of History at Simmons College holds degrees in History from Wayne State University, from the University of Michigan and and from Harvard University. He has written scores of articles on African American history, race and racism, U.S. foreign policy, globalization, and war and peace issues which have appeared in both scholarly and popular journals. Prof. Solomon has lectured in Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean. He has written or edited five books. His most recent are “The Cry Was Unity: Communists and African Americans, 1917-1936” and the editing and writing of an extended Afterword for Victor Grossman’s memoir “Crossing the River: A Memoir of the American Left, the Cold War and Life in East Germany.” He is currently working on a memoir/narrative of the Black Liberation Movement during the cold war. He has served as National Co-Chair of the United States Peace Council and is a past member of the Presidential Committee of the World Peace Council. He is also a former National Co-Chair of The Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism (CCDS).
