Solutions to the Afghanistan Crisis: A Webinar With Dr. Shah Mehrabi

How should international institutions help Afghanistan meet its economic crisis?
Dr. Shah M. Mehrabi, Professor of Economics at Montgomery College, Maryland, will discuss the effects on the people of Afghanistan of U.S. policies, including freezing of assets and sanctions. He is a member of the Supreme Council of the Central Bank of Afghanistan, a post he has held since 2003. He has taught at several universities, both in Afghanistan and in the U.S. and has published many articles. Read his Reuters article with recommendations to the IMF.
He previously served as an Associate Dean, Department Chair; Advisor to the President of Afghanistan; Senior Advisor to two Ministers of Finance of Afghanistanl Senior Consultant to BearingPoint and Delloite; and Coordinator of Economic Programs. In the above-mentioned capacities, he steered Afghanistan government, and institutions from old models to new paradigms and provided leadership in the areas of economic development.
Dr. Mehrabi has authored numerous articles on economics and business including “ Financial Sector in Afghanistan”, “Afghanistan’s Customs Departments’ Five Years Strategic Plan”, “Sudan’s Tax Structure and Agriculture”, “Central Banking and Monetary Policy in Mexico”, “Foreign Direct Investment in Puerto Rico” and many more. He has also has served as president of Global Awareness Society International (GASI) and Virginia Association of Economists and been an advisory Board member of the North American Economic and Finance Association (NAEFA).
