Safe Communities Act Hearing (Rescheduled)
January 24 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
We have a new date for the biggest immigrant rights mobilization yet! On Friday, Jan. 24, the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security will hold a day-long hearing on the Safe Communities Act, in the largest room in the State House, Gardner Auditorium.
Be there if you can; we need a massive show of support, with advocates from all across the state. We expect groups to come on buses from Western Mass., New Bedford, the Merrimack Valley and more. Our goal is to keep Gardner packed all day, working in shifts. We’re also doing a press event at 10 a.m., before we get started, and we’ll have constituents calling and visiting legislators as well.
It’s past time Massachusetts stand up and say loud and clear: immigrants are welcome here! Not one dollar of our state and local resources should be used to tear families apart.
What will your role be on this big day? Please use the RSVP link to help us plan and organize — and if you can’t come, consider supporting our mobilization by calling your legislators, spreading the word, and contributing to our mobilization fund: http://bit.ly/SCA-fund.
Things you can do to help:
• Call or email your legislators, and urge everyone in your networks to do the same (even if you’ve done it already, a quick extra call always helps; find your legislators here.
But most important… join us on Jan. 24! This is our biggest mobilization to date, and it has to be huge. Immigrants, children of immigrants, friends, neighbors, employers, community advocates – we need you ALL. You can find 8.5×11” flyers and mini-flyers in our Toolkit.
