Rising US pressure in Latin America and Reportback from Venezuela

Tensions in Latin America continue to rise as the US opposes Venezuelan President Maduro’s inauguration for a second term on Jan. 10.  Rumors swirl about US cutting diplomatic relations or taking other actions.  Meanwhile, Russian military aircraft landed in Caracas as part of expanded military cooperation with Venezuela.  
 
The US Congress passed harsh new sanctions against Nicaragua, and in Miami, national security advisor John Bolton denounced the Latin “axis of evil” including Cuba.  Brazil’s new right wing President Bolsonaro promised support.
