77 years ago, on August 6 and August 9, the human populations of Hiroshima and Nagasaki endured the inferno of nuclear bombing. The kinds of horror and sufferings brought by these weapons used by the United States had never before been experienced in humanity’s history. Approximately 100,000 died instantly in Hiroshima; approximately 70,000 died instantly in Nagasaki. Countless thousands more died quickly or slowly agonizing deaths from horrific radiation and other injuries.
Survivors of this holocaust have cried out in a unified plea to the world:
“NEVER LET THIS HAPPEN AGAIN! NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS – NO MORE WAR
On Sunday, August 7, 2022 we will undertake a walking prayer from Holyoke to Easthampton in support of the community gathering organized at Nashawannuck Pond in Easthampton “Now More Than Ever” Let us walk to find the path of survival within our mind and heart for the whole human family and all of life. We call out for an end of nuclear weapons forever; an end to war-making and implements of war. We call out for a courageous and humane envisioning of a new civilization of peace and shared security for all. This new civilization of peace must arise from spiritual values and replace our current civilization strongly gripped by materialism and militarism.
Please join us for a few steps, or the whole walk. Please join the gathering “Now More Than Ever” in Easthampton at 7pm
