Hiroshima and Nagasaki Week: Take Action for a Nuclear Free Future

From July 30 to August 6, Massachusetts peace groups will host a series of events to commemorate the 69th year of the Hiroshima & Nagasaki tragedies and call for abolition of nuclear weapons and phase out of nuclear power.
Please attend whichever one of these events that is most convenient to you in time or in location to show support for a nuclear-free future!
Sunday 8/3, Boston: Tina Chery (speaker for Boston Remembers Hiroshima and Nagasaki procession) will preach at the First Church in Boston 11:00am
Sunday 8/3, Boston: Community Church of Boston – Hiroshima/ Nagasaki Commemoration – Georges Island 10am to 3pm
Sunday 8/3, Watertown: Film and Candle Ceremony at Grace Vision Church 5:30-9:00pm
Tuesday 8/5, Boston: Nuclear Savage: Film Screening and Potluck at the First Church in Boston 6:00-9:30pm
Wednesday 8/6, Waltham: Vigil at the corner of Main and Moody streets, Waltham Common 7:45-8:30am
Wednesday 8/6, Boston: Boston Remembers Hiroshima and Nagasaki Memorial Procession 3:00-5:30pm
Wednesday 8/6, Falmouth: Vigil, Town Green, 5pm
Wednesday 8/6, Cambridge: Collective reading of Thomas Merton’s meditation “Original Child Bomb”, then walk to the Charles to float candles. Cambridge Friends Meeting, 5 Longfellow Park, 7pm
Wednesday 8/6, Andover: Vigil in front of the Old Town Hall on Main Street, sponsored by Merrimack Valley People for Peace. 7pm to 8pm.
Saturday 8/9, Worcester: Vigil for nuclear disarmament. City Hall, noon to 1pm.
Saturday 8/9, Northampton: Hiroshima & Nagasaki Day Remembrance. Procession from King and Main Streets in Northampton to the McConnell Building on Smith Campus, 6:30 pm; talk by Dr. Ira Helfand and screening of film clips; procession to Smith Paradise Pond dock for floating lantern ceremony, 8:00 pm. American Friends Service Committee.
7/30 – 8/6, Plainfield to Boston: Walking for Peace and Non-Violence, organized by New England Peace Pagoda from July 30 through August 6. Remember, to transform and to heal from the nuclear bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki 69 years ago. The walk will begin in Plainfield, MA and end in Boston, MA at the Boston Remembers Hiroshima & Nagasaki ceremony at Boston City Hall Plaza.
