No War on Iran Rally
August 3, 2018 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
As President Trump ramps up the rhetoric on Iran, threatening “consequences the likes of which few throughout history have ever suffered before”, it is worth asking whether the American people would welcome yet another military quagmire – as in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Yemen – or if Americans would prefer diplomacy and talks.
It is bad enough that the Trump administration pulled out of the nuclear deal with Iran, an agreement that included European allies, was endorsed by the UN, and embraced by the vast majority of Iranians who seek normalized relations with the U.S. Let’s note that the .agreement – formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or JCPOA – has the strictest nuclear inspections regime ever imposed on any nation.
And now, President Trump threatens Iran with war. This is reckless and irresponsible, and we urge all our fellow citizens to contact your representatives, urging support for the JCPOA and the resumption of diplomacy to ease the tensions.
In advance of a talk by Jamal Abdi, the incoming president of the National Iranian-American Council, at 6:30pm, Mass. Peace Action will rally in front of the Kendal-MIT “T” station to protest the Administration’s reckless rhetoric and attempts to destabilize yet another Middle Eastern Muslim country. Mr. Abdi will speak at the rally. Please join us to show support for the JCPOA, to call for diplomacy, and to GIVE PEACE A CHANCE!
In addition to Jamal Abdi, speakers will include:
- Bob Massie, candidate for Governor
- Mike Connolly, state representative
- Prof. Valentine Moghadam, Northeastern U.
- Rashin Khosravibavandpouri, MC
