Massachusetts Moral Monday: National Day of Action

Mon September 12, 2016 @ 10:30 am EDT

Join us at 11 AM on Sunday, September 12 at the Massachusetts State House to call on our elected officials to move away from extremist politics and policies that benefit the few and move toward policies and laws that are just and fair and guarantee a better life for the majority of the people.

America has a heart problem! In this country today poverty and inequality are rampant, voting rights and democracy are being trampled, millions of people lack the health care, living wage jobs, and quality education they need, and racism, hatred, and bigotry are disintegrating any possibility for life, liberty and a pursuit of happiness for everyone in these United States.

On August 1, 800 people from around our Commonwealth came together for an interfaith rvival. Heeding the call of Rev. Dr. William Barber, we stood united in our demand for a higher standard of morality that honors the dignity of children, immigrants, workers, elders, and all those who are marginalized in our society.

Rev. William Barber II told the nation during his Democratic National Convention speech a few weeks ago, “We are called like our foremothers and forefathers to be the “moral defibrillators” of our time. Together, we can save the heart of our democracy, and “shock” this nation with the power of love, mercy, and justice for all.”

Now Massachusetts will stand with 25 other states to let our public officials know that we are calling for a revolution of values. Join interfaith clergy and residents from around Massachusetts in delivering a Moral Declaration to the State House.

Organized by the Boston chapter of the NAACP, Bethel AME Church, the Unitarian Universalist Urban Ministry, City Mission, the Jewish Labor Committee, First Parish in Bedford, Mass. Interfaith Worker Justice, and others.
