Immigration in the Age of Trump

February 16, 2017 @ 6:30 pm

Donald Trump began his campaign by calling Mexican immigrants rapists. Since becoming President, his calls for mass deportations and keeping Muslim immigrants and refugees out of the country have only grown louder. Meanwhile, among his first actions as president was an executive order to start building a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border paid for with taxpayer dollars.

Given this climate, immigrant and refugee communities are understandably afraid, while all of us who support an open and welcoming country are upset, unsure about the future, and looking for ways to fight back. Fortunately, we have already seen signs of hope locally as Mayor Walsh reaffirmed his commitment to Boston as a sanctuary.

Join us on February 16 to hear from a diverse panel of immigrant and refugee rights organizers, policy experts, and community members including:
  • Centro Presente
  • Mass Immigrant & Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA)
  • ABCD Roslindale ESOL Program
  • Immigrant, student, and refugee community members
  • Musical Guests Sergio Reyes and Myriam Ortiz
Our panelists will talk about their own experiences and perspectives, the outlook for immigration under the Trump administration, the prospects for building movements of solidarity, and concrete ways we can get involved.

This forum is part of RISE’s ongoing efforts to defend and strengthen our community, while building a broader movement for social and economic justice. Read more about RISE

The event is free. We will have special musical entertainment, and attendees are encouraged to bring food and/or drinks to share. Spread the word on Facebook!
