Hearing on the Massachusetts Medicare for All Act
Tue October 26 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm EDT
The COVID crisis has amplified the critical need for a new Massachusetts healthcare single-payer financing system. The time is now for reform. We have lost 1 million US residents to COVID. How many more people have to die?
A single-payer health care system covers everyone under a publicly financed insurance plan. Medical care would be free at the point of service. All doctors and hospitals would be accessible to any resident without the restrictions currently imposed by insurance companies and employers. Fair, progressive taxation would replace premiums and co-pays. What’s more, single payer eliminates costly administrative waste from and profit associated with the health care industry. A single payer system has the capacity to reduce healthcare costs by 10%.(see www.masscare.org for further details.)
An Act Establishing Medicare for All in Massachusetts (S.766/ H.1267) will have a virtual public hearing before the Joint Committee on Health Care Financing, on the committee’s webpage, on Tuesday, October 26, time to be determined but likely to be 11AM-2PM.
You can testify either orally at the hearing, in writing, or both. A guide for organizing your testimony is here.
Written testimony can be sent now to the Joint Committee Co-Chairs at John.Lawn@mahouse.gov and Cindy.Friedman@masenate.gov and the Committee Director at email@example.com. This can be one email and please copy firstname.lastname@example.org. Please send by Tuesday, October 26, 5:00PM.
