Fund Health Care, Not Warfare Webinar
December 9, 2020 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm
On December 9th, at 8pm, we are joined by Dr. Joia Mukherjee and Dr. Abdul El-Sayed in the latest installment of our Health Care, Not Warfare webinar series. Across the nation millions of health care workers are under great stress and direct danger, desparately in need of of increased resources, investment and income. Hundreds of articles, interviews, webinars and broadcasts call attention to the nation’s failure to properly invest in the health care and public health systems. But silence on the diversion of trillions of taxpayers’ dollars to the war machine continues.
Dr. Abdul El-Sayed is a former Health Director for the City of Detroit, a Sander’s appointee to Joe Biden’s 2020 Unity Task Force for Healthcare, a former candidate for Governor of Michigan, published author, epidemiologist, and activist. Dr. El-Sayed’s experience and perspective is invaluable in understanding the private, for-profit health insurance system, and the challenges we face under a coronavirus pandemic.
Dr. Mukherjee has been involved in health care access and human rights issues since 1989, and she consults for the World Health Organization on the treatment of HIV and MDR-TB in developing countries. Her scholarly work focuses on the human rights aspect of HIV treatment and on the implementation of complex health interventions in resource-poor settings.
Join us as we talk with Dr. Joia Mukherjee and Dr. Abdul El-Sayed about the coronavirus pandemic, public health, the private health insurance system, progressive organizing, and more. We will hear about Dr. El-Sayed’s experiences leading Detroit’s health department, as well as Dr. Mukherjee’s and Dr. El-Sayed’s analysis of the pandemic and the current environment. What will it take to pass Medicare-for-All? How do we overcome the pandemic? Come find out!
