Film and Discussion: Imprisoning a Generation

May 25 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Imprisoning A Generation

The GRALTA Foundation announces a film and discussion at the Lincoln Public Library

Israel is the only country in the world that automatically and systematically prosecutes children in military courts that deny them fundamental fair trial rights and protections—between 500 and 700 Palestinian children, each year.

Shaina Low returns to Lincoln to host this important event and to discuss the Promoting Human Rights for Palestinian Children Living Under Military Occupation Act (H.R. 2407), a bill introduced in the House on May 1 by Betty McCollum (DFL-MN). The previous version of that bill, H.R. 4391, had thirty-one sponsors, including three from Massachusetts: Katherine Clark (who represents Lincoln), Seth Moulton, and Jim McGovern.

We begin by screening the 50-minute documentary Imprisoning a Generation by Zelda Edmunds that follows four young Palestinians detained and imprisoned under the Israeli military and political systems. Their perspectives and the voices of their families are a lens into entangled structures of oppression that expand well beyond prison walls. (Watch the trailer: https://vimeo.com/293674390.)

After the screening, we’ll have a discussion led by Jerusalem-based Farah Bayadsi, the defense attorney for Fawzi al-Juneidi (blindfolded in the photo above) and Brooklyn, NY-based Shaina Low, the International Advocacy Officer for Defense for Children International – Palestine, who is engaging the grassroots and members of Congress to support the No Way to Treat a Child campaign led by DCI-P and its partner, the American Friends Service Committee.

No charge. Light Refreshments

If you are unable to attend this program, there’s another chance to hear from Farah and Shaina: Friday, May 24 night at 7 pm at the Community Church of Boston, 565 Boylston Street.  That presentation will not include the film, but rather a more in-depth discussion of Israel’s child detention policies (explored in the film) and H.R. 2407  (https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/2407)
